My understanding of it back in the days was you got a stripped down partial version of the xdf if you provided Tap with the software version you were working on, but only a full version if you could show him you understood what you were doing with the xdf by creating a new definition that wasnít already there.

His intentions back then I believe was to ensure people didnt just willy nilly use the definitions on the wrong software versions or make definitions that wasnít correct and share them publically. For all intent and purposes I think it has served its purpose correctly and the reason the mss54 has grown and become what it is and how accurate it is was mostly due to this - little to no misinformation. Thereís simply so many software variants out there that if you had one xdf it was next to useless - thatís of course until Martyn came along and compiled every single software version and addresses for key modification into a simple to use idiot proof tool which he charges for. I recall when this was happening others were a little discontent about him making money out of other peopleís shared knowledge - still debatable till this day I am sure lol!

Having said that my understanding was also there was an originating full xdf from an early mss54 software version which was pretty bang on accurate and I believe (if I am mistaken correct me) that this was either translated from a purchased file or translated from another tuning plateform. Either way, I believe this could be widely shared if desired with no restriction as youíd actually have to know and understand how to use xdf to use this file. My understanding was Tap did not mind this being shared?

We could just have the newest version of each variant available— people could update to that before tuning.

Can anyone get ahold of tap ? I belong to the xdf group and have emailed him and have heard nothing back ... i think itís been long enough and the project itself has had no development that I can see and with the current tools available I think itís time we share. Iím willing to share what I have if itís agreed with the the group... I have 2801 and 2701 XDFs

I have literally all of them, but I'm not going to share without his explicit permission.

We could even have US people "downgrade" to a variant that shares a program with the Euro versions - that way we'd only need 3 XDFs total (MSS54, MSS54HP, and CSL).

I agree we need permission ... 3 XDFs is good idea ...

3 covers pretty much all the different software versions anyway.

I have 1701 which works for all but 1 of the mss54 files i've tried (the 1 that didn't work was a really old software version).

1801 works with all MSS54HP files i've tried.

0401 seems to work with all the CSL files i've tried.

I have MSS54 522 Winols version as a start. A2l Is generally available. Just will take some work to transfer over to an xdf. Maybe a new topic and those who would build a xdf with available public info. Not sure if thatís a good idea or useful or not.

Have you tried any US files? 2701 (HP) and 2801 (non-HP) are slightly different from 2001 (latest euro HP) and 2101 (latest euro non-HP). 2001 and 1801 seem to be equivalent. And I assume 2101 and whatever.

Don't have a dump of all the US 2001 and 2101 versions, but I think I have enough data at this point to recreate them if it comes down to it.

For the CSL 0301 and 0401 are equivalent

Ha fair enough. I think a 1601 XDF might actually be floating around somewhere on m5board, so that might be "done"*

No I have not tried any of the US files.

I know 1701 works with 1701 and 2101 on MSS54, but with I think it was 1501 it needs work.

1801, again works with 1801, 1901 and 2001 but needs work with 1601 on the MSS54HP.

However MSS54 1501 and MSS54HP 1601 are both very old, so it's easier if users just update to 1701/2101 and 1801/2001 respectively as they seem to be the most common euro tunes.
