Default problem with dme shut down after s54 swap...need help!!!!

i dont know exactly how to explain the issue. the dme is not powering down when i remove the key. here is what i have figured out so far.

vehicle 1. 2001 325xit - water damaged engine was removed. s54 was put in its place. car runs perfectly. only wiring was done to ews and clutch switch. coding removed ews function anyway.

vehicle number 2 (mostly for testing purposes) bone stock 2001 325it. standard transmission.

here is the issue. in vehicle 1. neither of the s54 dme (i have two) are properly signaling the dme relay to cut power. however, if i put the working 325it dme into vegicle 1, it does this exactly as it should.

heres where it gets extra confusing. if i put the s54 dme into vehicle number 2, they both work exactly as they should. obviously i am not strarting vehicle with the s54 dme but it powers on, triggers the relay and when i remove key it triggers the relay to power off.

all fuses are good. all related relays have been swapped for known working relays and no change.

if i disconnect the relay one time and plug it back in. it is powered immediately after i replug it in and it cuts power to the dme as it should 10 seconds later. if i dont remove and replace it will keep sending power to the dme indefinitely

help

Yeah maybe not the best place. Sounds like a wiring issue for sure not a coding issue. I have no idea what subtle wiring differences might exist between the DME's that might create some funk. I would say ign switch as first avenue except for your other ECU working OK.

S54 325xiT FTW though. I almost went that way instead of my E39 proj.

Does S54 325xiT mean 4 wheel drive turbo?

any one that can outline for me what pin 36 "can bus high" does. It appears to go to, cluster. it is not usually used when swapping into e36 from what i can tell. If i remove this one pin from the x60004 connector then my porblem goes away and the dme turns off and on as it should. however my temp guage is full into the hot and battery light is on. it seems to run normal.

posted on 5 different forums. not one single helpful response.

if anyone else has this problem. It appears I have figured out the source at least. I plugged pin 36 back into the x60004 connector and removed the cluster. still not working. removed the connection to the dsc module. it worked right! reconnected the cluster. still working properly.

Sounds like a wiring problem, or possibly a bad master relay. The master relay is controlled by the DME, the DME actually keeps its own power on for about 10 seconds after the ignition is turned off. The DME does some shutdown functions during that time. I'd find yourself a wiring diagram and have a look at the master relay wiring as well as the relay itself, as a place to start. Next would be to verify the ignition switch wiring from the key to the DME.
