Default Re: Low mileage 3/4/6 on BaT

The guys who are spending "huge" money on these cars right now are the same guys who will be spending the money to get small production runs of NLA parts properly made in 5-10 years. You know, the guys who will make it just a little easier to restore these cars when they need it.

I see these same threads in the Porsche forums- people incredulous that someone else would pay a premium for a nice car and incredulous that the market will bear these prices. It's the people paying "high" prices who are raising the market and increasing parts availability. Back in 2007 when I started working on 911s, the prices weren't high enough to warrant reproductions of certain parts and we had to cherry pick through used parts to get the best of the rest; now we just make a phone call and get the new hotness on its way in three days or less.

A rising tide lifts all boats and increases the availability of great parts at lower prices for the rest of us. We should all be lauding every E36 M3 sold for "crazy" money rather than lambasting the purchasers as wealthy people who don't know anything.

Wild. That’s a 24k tranny swap compared to buying it here 6 months ago haha.

For 40K by the time you pay BAT's fee and pay to register the car I'd be putting my money elsewhere.

Holy shit sure would. Thats a big premium to pay for an extra gear and a number on the dashboard. If the car was completely untouched paint wise I could understand.

Yeah, so much for RNM! Exciting auction. No doubt clean E36s are on the rise, but not sure this says anything about the broader market. Very unusual car.

29k miles. That’s basically new. Good price in that context.

I don't understand why the 6 speed would be worth more to a collector when it's not original.
