Default What's wrong?

So I let my friend borrow my s50 m3 and i trade cars for the night. I drive his s52 97 m3. Next morning the day I come he calls me and says the car started and he heard a large pop and wanted me come over. So i did. Start it and it idles like utter trash and it didnt want to start. So we try to limp it to his shop she doesn't want to drive in 1st gear (manual) it just wants to stall. We go to his shop and I had too many things going on today so I left him with his snap on at his apartment. He looked at the codes knock sensor and o2 sensor. he limped it to his shop and said there wasn't any power under 1700 RPM. He pulls all the plugs. 4 and 5 were burnt black on the top and the plugs were 2,000 miles on car currnetly has 149k miles on it. My friend did a compression test but I was so busy I didn't ask numbers. What do you think could it be? He is thinking it is the head.

Uh, those compression test numbers would be your first thing to fuss over. Get them and try here again.

You sure he's not lying about how he handled your car while he had it?

maybe he money shifted it or maybe your disintegrating antique knock sensors finally gave out or a trouble prone 95 retainer or two broke from either natural causes or operator abused. I agree with waiting for the compression test results and reconsidering who you deal cars with in the future.

Idle control valve has been knocked out of the manifold, perhaps.

If he did that wouldn't it happen right away not the next morning right?

It gets worse as it runs, but your buddy could be full of shit to be honest.
He likely didn't just "start the car" and pop the motor. Tell him you look forward to his s52 ending up in your engine bay.

That's what I think as this point to. But he's ending up redoing the top end. The head is going to get machined and a new headgasket kit from FCP is purchased. Although the head will be getting off tomorrow. I really liked this car and I treated his car with respect and next thing I know mine blows up
