Thanks Richard, I learned something today! The LTW is an expensive, non special, museum piece, that can only be purchased if you're looking for an investment...

Thank you M3forum the for reality check. While we're here, what other financial and life advice can you all provide?

Sarcasm* for those who might take this post too seriously. It sounds like you enjoy your model of the e36, but a "regular m3", as someone else put it here, just wont do, regardless of its subjective performance advantage.

I have found 3 examples, and have an offer on one with the other 2 being great backups. Thanks again to those who chimed in with examples for sale

I donít know why everyone thinks this guy gives a **** how you tell him to spend his money. I for one, am happy to see someone who appreciates the car, looking for one to enjoy Via driving it, and not Via flipping it.

Awesome! I hope you share pics/details with us after you purchase one.

I almost bought the salvage title one on BaT a month or so ago. It looked pretty beat but it would have been a blast at the track.

I applaud the guy for having the resources and dgaf attitude for picking up a low mileage example and driving it, hopefully, like he stole it.

Wrong. Very special (rare is special, duh) - maybe not to you but the numbers tell the story and the market obviously doesn't agree with you. Driving a rare car with <30k miles 5k miles in the next 5-10 years will make no difference in value.

Your car maybe faster, and much cheaper but that doesnt matter to people who want to have something rare/unique - different strokes/different folks.

Jeez maybe that came out the wrong way...

He is free to do whatever he wants, but he asked. I don’t think I’d be driving a $100,000 E36... I never said it wasn’t worth it.

2 questions:

Is the attraction of your group to the LTW a combination of rare (or special packaging of a mass produced model), low miles, certain to hold value over time, may not be at their peak value yet and rewarding to drive?
(Perhaps I missed some other factors your group uses.)

What other cars fit the category of the LTW that your group is looking for?

At this time I think once the LTW arrives, we're really all set in terms of rare vehicles, minus the ideal e30 M3, but those arent as difficult to come by, specially now with Europe's inventory being legally available. Long term value as no real consideration on purchasing.

Once the LTW arrives ill be happy to share photos, although, most here wont understand why it was purchased, specially once you see which engine it has. Life is about happiness, always important to remember that! Buying the mint cream puff LTW wouldn't have made us as happy as something more coaxed over and exciting to drive.

On the other side of cars, looking to pick up a e34 5 series this weekend. Non-M, and play with it. I have a spare S54 that needs a bottom end rebuilt, but thinking it would be great fun in the e34

I’m looking forward to seeing it. While we are waiting how about sharing some of the other highlights you already have?
