Default Going to look at an E36 on Labor Day

Hey fellas,

Haven't posted here in awhile, with the exception of a recent WTB thread. I have been poking around the forum for the last few months to read up. Been trying to focus on career, among other things, since the last time I was in the search for an E36 (almost 2yrs ago).

Well, I've recently restarted my search and I think I may have finally found one! 1-owner car, relatively low-mileage, clean title, records available. Alpine on Black, which is my preferred color-combo.

Here's the link: http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...ngId=329281103

I'm going to look at it on Monday. With the mileage, I'm already budgeting/planning for a cooling system refresh and rear-suspension refresh, as I'm doubtful that it's been replaced. Owner says he has an E39 M5 and that he only drove the E36 a day or two a week since buying the M5. Also, I've asked for interior shots which he will be getting to me tomorrow - I'll update the thread when I get 'em.

If all things go well on Monday, I'm going to put a deposit down on it, ask him to get a PPI done at a local shop of my choice during the week (car is in Los Angeles), and get my finances in order so I can meet him next weekend to pick it up.

I'd love to hear your thoughts and if you have any pointers for me. Even chime in if you have a shop in mind if you're from the area. I'm meeting him off of the Laurel Canyon exit, for reference.

Thanks so much!

Build sheet shows cruise control, HK sound, and LTWs. Good to see the LTWs still on the car.

Hood is a little off, driver's side is a few mm lower. I had the same problem with my car and it was fixed by adjusting the the hood latch. Exhaust looks to be hanging a little low, get new exhaust mounts. I had 80K when I replaced tie rods, night and day difference, but I swapped control arms and control arm bushings too.

Looks good. Let us know how the PPI turns out.

Thanks! and i'm STOKED on the LTWs! yea, I noticed the hood (it had a small front-end tap) and the need for exhaust mounts as well.

I'm sorry but that is overpriced. It's awesome that the guy is the original owner and the fact that he had regular serviced and everything but keep in mind it's a 16 year old car. IT's your money, and nothing personal to the owner but personally i don't think its worth that much. From what i see from the pics ill price it at 9k.

and for the shop, there is one on reseda near saticoy, its called European vision autoworks. I know its like a 15 minute drive but They are very knowledgable and reasonable.

@bimmaboy, Thanks so much for your input

I agree, it's not truly worth quite that much and blue book (though not accurate with the market on these cars) will say it's closer to $8300.

However, worth is ultimately an agreement between the buyer and seller and I would be willing to pay around $10k for the car. Say what you will, but that's where I stand.

To give you some reference to why: I ONLY want an Alpine car, which is pretty much untouched mod-wise, sport package, low-mileage, 5spd, and no major defects/concerns. Also, I was literally getting a quote on shipping a car from Tennessee that fit the bill when I found this one the other night. So, throw on some LTWs and the fact that it's a 1-owner California car and I say the worth is up there in my book.

My , but I really am appreciative of yours! :]

@bimmaboy,

Sorry, didn't even notice or recognize your mention of European Vision. Thank you! I'll contact them.

I don't think so, I'd say the price is fair for an unmolested one owner Alpine/Schwarz coupe and heated seats can always be added. From what I've seen, these cars are slowly climbing in value, at least in the SF Bay Area.
