Default 2004 BMW M3 - Alpine White - Cinnamon - 6 Speed

Swapped the second set of wheels on the car for now. They're 19" VMR's I believe. A big upgrade from the black drags with blizzaks. Im going to sell the drags in order to fund part of this project so if anyone is local to Chicago and is looking for a nice set of 19" winters, let me know!

The car definitely has to be lowered.

Donor car for the motor is currently being shipped from California. I decided against rebuilding the motor for now. I am going to swap a used one in that has had the vanos and rod bearings bulletproofed already.

The rod knock motor is going to be the guinea pig motor that I learn how to disassemble so that I can start doing rod bearings and vanos work on my LSB.

Nice pickup! Can't wait to see your progress! We have similar looking cars.

I recently impulsively bought my 04 Alpine White 6MT with an Imola Red interior that I've since swapped for cinnamon. AW/cinnamon has always been my favorite E46 color combo. My car has 165k miles, so I plan on doing a lot of preventative maintenance so it'll be reliable at the track.

Hey guys, not a lot of progress has been made on the car. Kind of irritated with myself with how slow everything is moving at the shop that is going to help me with the work.

Good news is the donor car has been chosen and is here in Chicago! The motor swap is hopefully going to take place this week or the next at the latest.

The plans is to get the car back to stock again and decide whether or not if I want to keep it, or sell it. I really would like to keep it, but having 2 M3's in the city of Chicago without a winter daily is not ideal.

I splurged on rmeuropean.com and bought a lot of goodies
  • OEM Orange Reflectors
  • OEM Turn Signals
  • OEM Fender Grills
  • Engine Mounts
  • Trans Mounts
  • Shifter Rebuild Kit
  • Steering Coupler
  • Drvieshaft Guibo
  • Trans Fluid
  • Diff Fluid
  • Engine Oil
  • Engine Oil Filter
  • Quarter Window Moldings
  • Front Windshield Cowl
  • Headlights Lenses
  • Headlight Gaskets
  • Cabin Air Filter
  • Intake Filter
  • RTAB's
  • FCAB's

Sorry for the delay. I have decided to swap out the rear end with a lower mileage example that I had laying around which is taking more time than originally anticipated.

The engine and rear end are out of the car, and I am doing some cleaning in those areas to get rid of all the crud from over the years.

I think that after I get the car put back together with all of the maintenance items that I have done, I will be putting it up for sale. I have receipts and documentation for everything. 2 M3's, especially in Chicago, is turning out to be too much of a headache for me right now.

Be on the lookout for the completed car in the next couple of weeks for sale. Not sure what I'll be asking with all of the work that I've put into it, but it will surely be a good deal for the forum members here. I will offer it for sale here first before I put the car on Craigslist and BaT.

Until the next update...

- Alex

Wow, has it been a while since I've updated this thread. Anyway, great news, she's officially driving again! I am so happy that this long process of getting her overhauled is over with. Well, scratch that, its never really over with is it?

But either way here she is! Forgive the poor iPhone quality. Those black hood and fender grills are being swapped out tomorrow with new oem chrome grills. Also, I have to readjust the headlights after swapping out the lenses because I think the drivers side is off by a little bit still.

Honestly, not so sure I want to sell her anymore, but justifying two M3's in Chicago is very, very hard.

Also, yes I know that it also needs a wash. Its supposed to rain here the next two days so I didn't want to wash before the rain. Today is literally day 1 of this AW/Cinnamon M3 driving again!

After a nice wash! Still have to replace the black grills with the oem chrome ones as well as replace the black badge with the oem one as well. Still looks pretty nice though!

Nice pick up! This is the best and most fun way to get the E46 M3 you want imo.

Thanks man! Oh 100%. I got pretty lucky though too be honest. Right time and the right price for me at the moment and I happened to have a bunch of the parts that it needed anyway from an old part out of mine. I think I might try to keep it but we’ll see!

It hasn’t gone through the subframe reinforcement/vanos/rod bearing lockdown other than the recall at the dealer for the bearings. Subframes not cracked. Not sure how much I can get for it too be honest without locking down those 3 items first

Check out the interior.
