Default Re: Have you change your harmonic balancer on your E46 M3?

this car has a preventive to do book, not list.

I will have to look into mine. Not overly worried since everything is stock. I spoke to my buddy that works at BMW and he has never seen one changed at his dealer (12 years)

The only thing that was annoying when I was street driving was the chatter at idle and this is common. Now that I have the BW race exhaust I can't hear anything other than blahhhh, blahhhh, lol. Do you think your harmonic balancer was shot before you put on the lightweight flywheel? The flywheel would have magnified any existing vibrations with less rotational mass for the crank to turn.
I inspected my harmonic balancer before and it looked to be OK, but it's hard to tell if it's actually "bad". Funny, because there have been others who have experienced the vibration I described, perhaps it's from a balancer that is simply losing some of it's function. Will discuss with my local shop. BTW - my car only has 34K miles.

For those with the "heavier" aftermarket flywheels, do you notice a big difference in decrease, if going from a lighter fw, or any noticeable increase, if going from stock, in acceleration?

I'm getting ready to purchase the Clutchmaster kit and am deciding between the steel or aluminum flywheel.
