For those that may not know, the cam pins dropping in nice and smooth is only half of the timing... equally critical is the position of the spline shafts, and what tooth is engaged in the hubs...

Cyber, have you checked the adaptation values via tool32 as I posted previously in this thread? Following re-timing, you'll need to reset adaptations and allow engine to get up to temp before the adaptations will take place.

You will have it already if you have INPA/BMW Std Tools. Just do a search for 'Tool32'

What if we were looking at this at the wrong angle.

e.g. my car had zero issue with vanos before i installed cams.

Ive installed/done tons of vanos "fixes" with updated seals for customers. Alot of people want a peace of mind before they motor goes kaboom. the motors always pass vanos test after completion. (Timing method Vanos+Hubs together. as described in TIS)

For my own car, it was still on stock OE VANOS system seals and everything (Oil Pump Disc is modified and New Vanos Filter and the obvious torx to hex bolts). Mileage is on the high side on the complete unit. I'm stubborn, if its not broken don't touch it.

When i first installed my cams, with the OE timing method and tools including all the Vanos Electrical BMW vanos actuators, OE vanos/head spacer and what not. it will fail vanos test, and the car will drive like ass, no low end power. Timing was dead on, Pin slides in. What i changed were, DLC Cam followers, New Vanos Bolts,Cams, Upper timing chain guide, vanos filter and vanos oil disc.

This drive me nuts, since the car was perfectly fine and pass before the cam change. Probally timed my motor maybe 4-6times and it wont pass the test and throw vanos inlet errors.

Finally gave up and try this other installation method, where ill insert the splines into the hubs, torque the hub down and attached the vanos.

Results, Vanos Pass car drives like it suppose to. Here is the vanos test results. this is with CSL software and corrected offsets.

Original Seals and Accumulator with over 180,000 hard miles.

even with this i wasn't at peace with it in my head since it wasn't done properly, until i saw what it did on the dyno. It made close to 360whp which made me stop the worrying.

Fast-forward today, the motor has been completely rebuild still on the exact same vanos setup. runs and pass every single test you throw at it.

this is just my 2 cents.
