Unhappy So long SF Bay Area... (car shipping question)

3 weeks before the big move over to Boston, and still tons to do!!! Super stressed, esp. when I start thinking about all the things that could go wrong with my cars on the trucks.

Need some advice from those who have shipped their M's cross country.

- Did you go w/ an open or closed carrier?
- What are the questions I need to ask the shipping company?
- What did you guys do about mods with regards to insurance? How do you declare the "value" of your car and its mods?
- I'm going from SF to Boston, which is the top (most reliable and reputable) company?

I plan to tip the driver nicely befoe and after just to make sure he takes special care with my babies.

Please help with the above questions! I'm so stressed planning for the move on top of everything happening at work I'm dying here..............

Hey Fern, thanks for the reply. Its seems two names seem to pop up a lot, Intercity and Horseless Carriage... I'll be calling them tomorrow.

Hopefully will get a discount for shipping 3 cars.

Oh BTW, nice car! I guess I won't have a chance to see it in person!

Intercity and Horseless Carriage are very reputable companies. I used Fedex Passport to ship my M3 from Washington DC to Los Angeles. All enclosed, hydraulic lift. Those are the two main things you want to look for. Also, you want to make sure they don't use terminals in between. Same driver picks up should drop off. You don't want your M3 sitting in some terminal in the middle of nowhere waiting for another driver to pick it up. I wouldn't really worry about insurance, most companies are covered up to a Million. I'll let you know if i can think of anything else. GL on your move!!!

All major transport companies offer the option of insurance, make sure you take it! As far as tipping its really up 2 u but dont be too generous.. there jobs offer them enough satisfaction!
