This seems like respray to me. Tape it off, sand it lightly, find a good black color youre happy with, spray/clear and then enjoy your new look.
Unless you make $1200 in a few hours then its a no brainer.
And if you do, then congrats, go buy your new trim lol

Completely agreed. This feels like an instance where you could get 100% the same result with paint as with the same result.

In fact, my M5 (comes stock with high gloss shadowline) developed an imperfection. I had them respray and blend it while it was in the body shop for something else, and at this point I can't even tell where the imperfection was-- the paint is indistinguishable from the original high gloss shadowline.

And it was easy enough that they did it for free!

I wrapped my trim in gloss black when I had it off to fix the rear window seals. I wanted it to match my roof (also gloss black wrap), grills/gills (ECS gloss black) and M3 badge (F80 gloss black).

First thing I ever wrapped and it was a pretty easy diy. It has held up exceptionally well over 2 years and still looks brand new. Highly recommended.

Don’t forget there is more to the Glans Schwarz trim than the roofledge piece. You can paint your rubber version lower trim but I don’t believe the OEM version is just paint. It may be an integrated hard cap over the rubber.

The forward quarter glass trim comes only in matte but these might look good matched too.

Honestly, because my stock trim is in good condition and at over $500 a side, I don't want to risk mucking them up and being stuck with trim that is worse off than the stock matte finish. Wet sanding, polishing, clear-coating, or wrapping...none of those options guarantee the same look of the high-gloss shadowline trim. Would rather just do it right the first time....price depending.

Then pay a pro to redo your stock pieces for like $200

Thought about pulling the trigger on these, but the pictures are a little un-clear and the description mentions that the trim's "finish has some minor fading and tarnish, but there is no serious damage."

Are these the only two pieces needed for the Shadowline trim on the E46 M3? Just the long swoopy trim piece that goes on either side...that's the only piece that comes in high-gloss?

Interesting that painting it was a perfect match. Maybe this is the best action after all.

I painted all my trim gloss black including the mirrors, grills, side vents. Even the chrome around the Roundels, which I have yet to install.

Trim comes off easily. Little tricky to mask but well worth it. Replaced the lowers with new matte versions, as these couldn't be painted.

Only crap pics I have at the moment.
