Default Michigan pot holes Suck!!!

I was in my way to a meet this morning, cruising at about 40 MPH down a major city street. I looked at the GPS for 1 sec and smack I hit the mother of all pot holes!

My glove box popped open and visors dropped but the car drove straight. I started to hear a load metallic clanging from the truck.

After further inspection I found this! 🤬

F######!!! The RH rear damper mount blew apart. Part of me is super pissed. But part of me is relieved itís only a $40 part. The shaft of the Koni damper did rattle around in the mount hole for the 70 mile drive home.

The mount is about a 1 year old and Iím pretty sure itís either a Mehle or Lemfoerder HD part.

What now?
I could replace it with another Lemfoerder HD mount or a set of TC Kline rubber mounts or these ECS Ultimate Rear mounts.

I donít want any ball joint or poly mount because comfort is important to me.

On a positive note it looks like my Apex FL-5 rims held up just fine. The outsides look perfect and they drove home with no vibration. Iíll check the inner lips and barrels when I remove the rear dampers.

So glad the frame didn't crack...recommend you get the reinforcement plate...should be about $20-30 and you don't nee to weld it. It looks as this...not affiliated nor endorse...it's the first search result.https://store.garagistic.com/bmw-rea...-reinforcement

Does your carpet have a hole in it now?

Me too. Iím somewhat relieved that the weak link was a simple shock mount. Itís probably the cheapest part to replace but itís a pain to remove. I just finished installing JL Stealth speaker boxes which make it difficult to move the carpet around to access the nuts.

I do have ECS reinforcements. You can see the black plate under the nuts. That may have saved my shock tower.

I think the Lemforder E46 M3 mounts are what is in the car and blew out. I bought the ECS cup kit installation kit. It lists Lemforder rear mounts but nothing more. When I look at the individual Lemforder rear mounts ECS offers they are the E46 M3 mounts.

I might buy a set of TC Kline mounts, just because I can service them from the wheel well.

Yes. When I pulled over to check out what was banging around I could see the top of the damper poking through the carpet just under the speaker.

Do not drive the car like that (or remove the damper and drive it). It puts more stress on the other damper and can punch through the shock tower. I've seen it before. I'm glad to see that didn't happen to you on the hit.

Welcome to Michigan! That’s why we can’t have nice things and the reason I’m dying to move south. The people who say they have bad roads haven’t seen anything. Glad you got of reasonably lucky.
