In an E36? I think the main thing is you need to modify the inner tie rods to allow venting. Unless the E46 inners can work with the E36 outers.

You will need inner tie rods from an E46 non-m, the outer E36 M3 bolt right up to the inners. The tabbed lock washer is deleted with the E46 inners. Swap the plastic input shaft spline cover on the racks. Everything else bolts right up including the power steering cooler.

Cool, so no need to worry about venting which terra mentioned? Rack Doctor ships them with the stock, non-M inner tie rods, so I’d just swap over a few parts and be good to go, like my E46. I just hope I don’t break the plastic cover again.

I’m not a fan of the parts Rack doctor includes. Use the inners if you want to, but Lemforder are best.

Do you know if it's possible to buy just the inner Lemforder tie rods?

I have a rack docker yellow tag rack I'm about to throw in the e46 M3 coupe. My M3 tie rods, which I'll be moving over, are almost brand new. But, if the inners Rack Doctor tie rods are no good, I'd rather address them before I install it! (and cheaper better, if they can be had without the outers that I'd just just be throwing away)

If so... where can I get it in the USA...

I had to buy the entire E46 tie rod to get the inners. That part does suck.

I'm in the minority; after having a Z3 rack I thought it sucked. It's quicker, but the turning radius was worse and it felt artifically quick. 330i is the happy medium, I think it suits the car perfectly. Gets rid of the slow on-center dead spot of the stock rack without changing the way you drive the car.

This. E46 inner tie rods are notched to equalize pressure left to right. They mate up to E36 outers fine.

Same. AFAIK can't buy separate.

Grab the M3 outers from your original rack? Or are those not new?
