How much?

5 L is enough for two flushes, right?

Default Re: Pentosin MTF2 Discontinued

So, when I did my SMG->6MT conversion 5k miles ago, I put in 2 bottles of the pentosin MTF2 because I couldn't get my hands on the discontinued OE BMW MTF-LT2 fluid, but I was able to find an advance auto parts near me that had two old stock bottles of the pentosin left sitting behind the counter. I was a little sketched out by the pentosin because they were obviously very old bottles with faded labels, and one of the bottles seemed to have some sort of precipitate formed in the oil. But I didn't really have any other good choices, so in it went, and drove with it for 5k thinking that the notchiness/roughness of the shifting was the standard getrag 420G bullshit.

I was recently lucky enough to be able to snag a couple gallons of the OE BMW MTF-LT2 oil from Kaiv. Switched the 5k mile pentosin MTF2 out for the OE BMW fluid today, and I felt an immediate difference in how the gearbox feels. Definitely nicer/smoother, less notchy/noisy.

So, for anyone out there who has been settling for snagging a few bottles of the old stock discontinued pentosin MTF2 that's still on shelves at random shops, I would suggest you go out of your way to try and track down some of the OE BMW stuff. Contact Kaiv, maybe he still has some left!! I've also heard that Canadian BMW dealerships still stock it.

Oh weird, the 1L is available a couple of places online, but the 5L seems to be NLA (neither tischer, nor ECS, nor FCP have it). None of my local dealerships I called could get any and offered me a GL5 fluid instead.

Good to know the 1Ls are still out there! (albeit pricey)
