Default Convenience features gone after SMG to Manual Coding..help?

Hello All - My car was coded by a shop after my SMG to 6MT swap. I've noticed that I lost a couple convenience features after this coding. I used to have daytime running lights..(not longer active unless i move my dial), my doors would automatic lock after driving over 10-15mph (not working anymore). I have the BMW software cable to run INPA, ISTA, TIS , NCSexpert, etc. Can someone help me out or lead me in the right direction for information on turning these features back on and review what's currently turned on ? Thanks in advance for your guys help!

LOL. Those are 2 features I HATE in any car but diff't strokes fer diff't faulks.

Yeah that's totally normal in case like this. I'm sure they just did a 'code car' and blew away anything custom you had.

Whenever your car goes into the shop for anything coding related, if you want to preserve custom coding you need to tell them. Be prepared that they still might be too stupid to know how to do that so you may have to re-do your customizations on more than one occaision...

I just coded an SMG swap last week, what I do is back-up key modules like the cluster (AKMB), GM (ZKE) and LCM (ALSZ) and then later I can compare changed settings old vs new and selectively restore the ones they want.

The tool to use is NCSExpert along with NCSDummy as the 'helper' app. Its foolish and annoying to give you the 101 instructions on how to basically use NCSExpert and NCSDummy here because that's been written 100x 100 times on various threads and forums, but as you say, happy to point you in the right direction. Conceptually suffice it to say it goes like this:
  1. You use NCSExpert to read a module and it saves a file on the computer
  2. You open that file with NCSDummy to examine and understand it in a friendly way
  3. You use NCSDummy to change your settings and save a new file back out again
  4. You use NCSExpert again to write that edited/saved configuration back to the module

So search on how to use NCSDummy - the basic instructions as well as 3rd party write up threads are all over the goddamn place.

Then you'll need to find the right setting in each module. The locking features will be in the "ZKE" module - general body electrics - and the lighting features will be in the "ALSZ" module - lighting. You can probably find them yourself in NCSDummy pretty easily, both settings should be pretty obvious, but somebody probably has posted the right codeword info in a thread someplace I'm sure.

FWIW once you've gotten the car the way you want, you can save the 'trace' files from NCSExpert on your computer as a backup - that way if a dumbass shop blows them away again its a matter of 5 minutes and a few mouse clicks to just restore the setup.

HTH.

Ahhh just cuz I was feelin' like a dudebro and procrastinating on the MS41 DME I have to wire up and re-code, I googled the settings for you too...

The ALSZ setting is pretty easy, the basic setting is obvious. Although there are 'some options' depending on what you do/don't want to use as your DRL's.
  1. TAGFAHRLICHT Daytime running lights DRL nicht_aktiv
  2. DRL_BLK_VORN_GEDIMMT Dimmed front blinkers as daytime running lights. aktiv / nicht_aktiv
  3. DRL_BLK_VORNE_2_GEDIMMT Dimmed front blinkers as daytime running lights. aktiv / nicht_aktiv
  4. DRL_DIMMUNG DRL Dimming. wert_01 / wert_02 / wert_03
  5. GED_FL_ALS_DRL Day time running lights dimmed high beams. aktiv / nicht_aktiv

The ZKE is also called the GM5. You'll have to set 2 parameters - one to turn the feature on, the other to tweak the speed you want (if its not already the one you want)....
  1. VERRIEGELN_AUT_AB_X_KM/H Lock at selected speed in km/h aktiv / nicht_aktiv
  2. VERRIEGELUNGSSCHWELLE Automatic locking speed selection klemme_r / 8_km/h / 4_km/h / 12_km/h / 16_km/h / 20_km/h / 24_km/h / 28_km/h

So, i figured out how to access the module in NCS dummy although the changes don't seem to be happening...

Here's what I'm doing for DRL

Hook up to car, launch NCS Expert.
Load ExpertMode Profile
Select VIN/ZCS/FA, Chassis=E46, ECU = ALSZ,
Then i read the ECU..open up NCS Dummy and open up the corresponding module
Enable DRL, export the FSW/PSW man file
Go back into NCS Expert, and code car...

Looks like I'm doing everything correct...there must be other options impacting these features I guess..

Any ideas?

Good on you, you've figured it out 90%, clearly you don't have trouble getting the idea!

You don't want to "code car" - that will reset everything again according to the default settings.

You just want to code each specific module one at a time.

You can leave NCSExpert open the whole time, just after exporting the MAN file, make sure
1. the correct module is still selected (you should see ALSZ listed below the Jobname) and
2. 'Job' is set to SG_CODIEREN (select with 'Change Job' of course)
3. Select 'Execute Job'

That should do it.

I almost always immediately read the module back again and re-load the TRC in Dummy to double check that my changes took effect.

To read the module, if the 'Read ECU' button has disappeared (you'll find that the interface does weird things in NCSExpert like choices will disappear after you've done things... this is normal, you can always back out and start over again if the choices are confusing...) then just use 'Change Job' to select CODIERDATEN_LESEN which is the basic 'Read ECU Data' job.

If that works with the ALSZ, then start over again w/ the ZKE/GM module and do the same series of steps.

If the changes still aren't taking effect, then there's a chance the profile you are using isn't fully enabled... but if you got it from the normal sources that's not usually a problem.

So the good news is I was coding in the proper sequence lol I was able to code changes to the GM and ALSZ modes with no issues. Even walked through each feature and enabled some cool ones (obsessed with showing people the one-click close feature lol).. I'm going to leave the DRL off, turns out the reason it initially wasn't working was because I didn't have some other features activated, hence the coding not working. But I'm all good now Thank you very much for your help!
