Wanted something I could take to the track and not have to upgrade every damn thing on the car to keep it from blowing apart. I also needed a back seat to carry my 4 year old daughter and a trunk to carry stuff from time to time.

It was also 1/2 as much as a 996 twin turbo that I really wanted...

Needed:

1) I had to fit inside (6'6" tall, 250lbs)
2) Had to have 2 useable rear seats
3) Had to have a decent trunk
4) Had to be in performance range of a 911 Carrera
5) Had to be able to track with minor mods (brake pads)

I could sit here an write a well written article on it, instead Ill just say its what ///M built at the peak of its excellence. Great chassis mated with a superb engine an transmission an covered up by a spectacular timeless design.

Apart from anything else, it would give a tremendous 'feelgood' boost to the end of the season, be the greatest comeback story since Lazarus, and give us a chance to enjoy Robert's laconic humour again. Remember that monster shunt of his in Canada? The next day, as he walked out of hospital, a journalist asked him if he'd seen the crash on TV. Robert Kubica stopped, looked the journo right in the eye and said: "I've seen it twice: the first time I was there!"
