I just test fit the rear shock tower plates. These will make life much easier for me!

They fit well and the edges are prepped for welding...thanks!

Good

Sometimes people don't realize how long it can take to make those simple plates for the first time.

It's still a good time to get your roll bar kit before track season begins!

I bought the rear shock tower reinforcement plates. What a time saver!!!

They fit pretty well. The edges were chamfered to aid in welding I didn't need to bust out the grinder once! They did require some minor adjustments but nothing a vise, map torch and a hammer couldn't fix!

The biggest pain is scraping the seam sealer. This is important even if you're MIG welding. There's a huge difference...I could easily tell when I didn't scrap the seam sealer from the spot I was welding. PLUS...the metal gets hot and the seam seal WILL catch fire!

Quick DIY...just remove the shock on the driver side. You need to remove the wheel well liner, drop the fuel expansion tank, and remove the shock. Then get to scraping seam sealer.

The welding went pretty well except for the bottom. Got some stalactite action going on but the plates are on there. I did the prep work, bolted the top plates down and then tack welded everything in place. Went back and welded everything up. These plates are well worth the $100 I paid and saved me a couple of hours and a lot of grinding!

Here is the pass side...

Next time, when you want to remove the seam sealer, use a twist knot wire brush and grind a bigger area. You want to get to bare metal but don't want to get the sheet metal any thinner. It will make welding easier.

Here are some pics of my kit installed in a local customer car:
