Hey everyone, yesterday I bought an M3 and noticed a slight putter coming from under the car but then it went away. On the drive home (about 10 hours), the putter noise was a lot more noticeable but it only happens when I blip the gas. The best was I can describe the noise is comparing it to maybe a broken gasket near an exhaust.
I made an appointment to have the car looked at tomorrow but I'm kind of nervous. |

Sounds like some type of exhaust leak, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Sweet thanks. Feel a little better that that's what it could be. Going to have BMW take a look at it soon.
Hey where did you get those carbon fiber pieces for the front bumper? |

The problem may be a lot worse. I was driving casual and all of a sudden, my check engine light came on and the car went into limp mode. The engine started to idle rough. I turned the car off and waited a minute or so before I turned it back on. When I did, the light went away and the car drove like normal again.

The carbon fiber pieces can be ordered but there is just nothing to secure them to. The holes tend to wear out and then it is almost impossible to get a good anchoring point.

Pull the codes and it should be obvious what it is. Could be as simple as a bad ignition coil.

Could be bad header to downpipe gasket (easy) or header to head gasket (a lot of work).

https://getbmwparts.com/partlocator/...catalogid=4462 iND will paint them for you (color matched looks good if it's not a black car). I like them on my jet black a lot. Makes the front look lower and more aggressive. ![]() |
