No, I actually work for Janicki Industries. One of the guys in our department actually left and went to HT. Haven't talked to him since, I wonder how the transition is from doing advanced aerospace components to interiors would be.

Never know, with some proper ducting you basically eliminate the choke point of the factory box, would have proper filtration, and the ability of lower IAT from where its at now.

A nice fitting duct could be shaped from block styrofoam. Carbon chop and wetlay around it and then melt out the foam with acetone and you got yourself a fitted carbon duct similar to a CSL.

Are we reinventing the wheel here? The CSL airbox already does the following you listed. There simply is not a replacement for it in terms of function and the by-product ~ induction roar

OP, nice job with the airbox. Seems like a nice, cost-effective method to increasing the induction volume. I do have my doubts, however, about the gains (or loss?) in power and torque. Best of luck with the ongoing improvements to your set-up.

I wouldn't say reinventing the wheel, more like a functional alternative. Especially since 3k+ for an intake is stupid to me. This isn't a super car plus it would be interesting to take a poll that if the CSL intake sounded like stock how many would even buy it

Thanks! That's what i was going for a cost effective way to make the induction sound as loud as possible with little to no power loss. (still up for debate but i drive this car daily and feel no loss)

More like making an affordable wheel.

Not all owners are concerned about sound; in fact, I'd put that "want" in the aesthetics category of modifications. They're useless to a degree. A percentage of CSL box owners (OEM, Evolve, Bimmerworld, etc.), including myself, want to take the S54 to its max potential naturally aspirated. Fortunately/Unfortunately this means having the most efficient intake money can buy. You're correct... Spending $3K for induction noise alone IS stupid, and I deplore those that buy the airbox for that reason. But let's not be too quick to assume that all CSL box owners want it for attention. And for the record, I would have voted to still buy it regardless if sounded stock (it's not like stock induction was shite to begin with)

I concur, I guess I am just struggling with the fact that this is my first naturally aspirated car haha. Aside from the NSX which I was transitioning to forced induction prior to parting ways with it.

The csl intake is beautiful, sounds amazing, and is designed by engineers that know this engine top to bottom. No arguing that. I just am biased when spending 3k for an intake an there's a SC kit in the classifieds right now for the same price haha

$3k is expensive but that's what CF does to pricing. I'm willing to bet though that if the oem box wasn't $5k+ that these reps wouldn't be costing as much as they do but in any case, I think what the op did was pretty cool and it sounds great. Looking forward to better quality vids including interior clips. I picked up an extra box years ago to tool around with, I wonder what the effect would be to graft the CSL filter (if possible) to the box vs the K&N used here.
