Default Is this e46 m3 worth it?

https://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/cto/6045651222.html

Wondering if it is worth the asking price as it has a rebuilt title.

If not how much is it really worth?

A rebuilt title carries all kinds of issues from registration to insurance. Add to that, youll never be able to sell it for anywhere near what youll put into making it right. If you dont know what youre up against from the outset, id steer clear

IMO yes, if you plan to keep for a long time.
If everything checks out and the accident wasn't too bad it is somewhat an OK price

i would agree if it was just accidents listed, this is a rebuilt title which means it wasnt a minor accident. the car was deemed non road worthy at some point

^ Not necessarily. Just means the repair estimate exceeded about 75% of the ACV, which as these cars age and replacement parts and labor prices remain constant, means it takes less and less damage to declare a car a total loss. Anything much more than a fender bender will get these close to that territory. I have also seen theft recovery cars at auction that were sold with a salvage title/certificate because the insurance company had already paid the owner before the car was recovered. Those would be issued a rebuilt title when returned to service, at least that is the case in Tennessee, other states may differ.

That said, I personally wouldn't buy one unless building a dedicated track car, simply because you never know the details unless the PO has extensive documentation. I note that they're not forthcoming with any details about why in the ad.

It's worth checking into. I say that because (1) insurance companies total out cars for all types of reasons good and bad; and (2) the guy says he's been driving for 8 years, which may have been AFTER the rebuilt title.

If the car was rebuilt prior to this guy's ownership, and he's been tooling it around with no issues for 8 years, maybe it's worth $15k. If on the other hand he's had it 8 years, wrecked it, then put it back together to sell and recoup, walk away because in that case maybe it's worth $10k, which he'll never take.

The point is you can't tell by just the ad. A bit more digging is warranted, I'd say. You have to find out who the Seller is: (a) the guy who bought a wrecked car for a steal and lavished it back together to drive blissfully ever since; or (b) the guy who wrecked a good car and now wants to recoup his money.
