All you need to do is swap bell housings, tap the gear position sensor hole and install the switch and the hardware under the switch from your six speed, you are lucky you still have the SMG, most SMG trannys have pristine synchros, there are no clearance issues involved, read the six speed swap threads and you will see all the details.

Appreciate it for the response. I am going to dig into it tonight. I really hope it is as straight forward as you say.

When I swapped in my 5 speed, I moved the reverse switch but I removed the gear ID switch.

Do you really need that for a 6 speed? There's nothing electrical or programming related that I am aware of that cares about what gear you're in?

I agree. At high rpms its like butter.

Which makes me beleive there is a reason they chose this tranny vs others that may be smooth at low rpm city driving.

The cruise control uses it on the six speed cars, not sure how it works on SMG cars without it. It was the last thing I tried while trouble shooting my cruise control, the gear position switch fixed it.

When was yours built?

I had an 07/03 build and I could swear my mechanic told me it was a getrag. A rod hit the starter which tore a chunk out of the bell housing. I remember doing some research to see if a ZF reman would fit.

Hmm, my 07/03 and 07/04 ZHPs both had ZFs. RealOEM also indicates ZF. Odd.

I wonder if Getrag just built some to the same spec
