Finally saw this thread!

So is this opening up the doors for custom tuning on the user end?
Meaning any end user can start tweaking maps themselves?

The day of the $1200, canned, copy-cat tune is coming to a screaming, screeching halt, yes.

I'm working to update the first post in this thread with the information posted within, I've just been tied up this past week and only now found a local dyno friendly to the cause so I can prove what I already know to be true.

This will be very interesting to see.

My biggest worry is giving people the ability to tune their own cars, but them not really knowing what to do with it. I would hate to see people blowing their motors

Keep us posted ASAP! I am looking forward to what you have to share with us!

Well, I personally would recommend that most people stay with a not-so-terribly aggressive tune for 91 octane, much like the non-publicized dEvolve, ESS, et al tunes that don't generate much. It's no secret, there's no significant additional power to be had from these engines, tune-wise, until you go with headers, cams, or forced induction. I could rant, at length, about some of the shoddy practices being masqueraded by nice marketing techniques and pretty boxes, but that's neither here nor there at this point.

If someone's going to pop their engine, they'll do it just like they would with a super/turbocharger, improper maintenance, overrevving, or any of a litany of other ways it can be done. Improper tuning can already be accomplished quite easily with TunerPro or WinOLS and no one is forcing a bad tune for anyone else to use. Like all things in the public eye, it tends to get better with age and exposure, such that someone will emerge as a 'tune provider' with different canned tunes for basic setups.

Options will emerge that will dwarf what has traditionally been available in the past. It will be like comparing an Intravee to a DICE unit.

Oh, and BTW, it won't stop with the E46...

No, please do rant at length.
Since you've decided to for no reason at all name our company I would like to hear what you have to say.
It's great to share information but there is no need to bring negativity into it.
You might actually find that some profit making companies might just help you!

As for the statement about can tunes and copy cat tuners, again, what is the point in saying such things?

This is not the first time this kind of thread has started. I just hope it doesn't end up like the others did where an agenda is in place.

Will be watching very carefully here and I would ask you politely to stop mentioning evolve and any company at that matter.

I was actually about to put up the entire useful map list in graphical format but I that's on hold....

I know several people that have 3rd party tunes (evolve, ess, AA, etc) and they love them. I would purchase a tune in a heart beat, but I am leaning towards the FI direction and any $$$ invested into intake or software would be wiped out once boosted.

Lets not talk crap about any products, especially those manufactured/sold by forum sponsors. That being said, I'm looking forward to seeing the how far people can take these home brewed tunes. If someone can turn on the shift lights on the 7837781 tune as a proof of concept that would be awesome...

Great post!

I think this thread has a lot of potential to educate our community. Some of these banters against highly regarded, successful, and helpful vendors are in no way necessary nor appropriate.

As I said, I am looking forward to see what people do with all this information eventually provided.
