Default Possible issue with J-Fiber CF Driveshaft E46 M3 SMG

I got my driveshaft from J-Fiber from the group buy and my mechanic was installing it when he noted an issue. The pieces do not match up flush. We are not sure if they are supposed to or not. I have sent an email to J-Fiber regarding the issue, but I am wondering if the folks who got theirs also have the same issue.

Pic 1 is the Factory Input shaft

Pic 2 cap that was on the CV joint of the CF driveshaft. It DOES NOT fit the diff input in pic 1

Pic 3 Pic of what is under the Cap of the CV joint of the CF driveshaft. itís not a flat surface where it bolts to the diff input. See pic 4 for reference. Notice how itís flat while there is a lip on the CF CV joint edge when the cap on pic 2 is removed. This will cause it to have a ďgapĒ and not sit flat

Pic 4 factory CV joint on the factory driveshaft. Note the flat mount surface area

My question to those who got their driveshafts for the E46 M3 does it look like mine? If so and you installed it, did you just install it with the gap?

If/when I get word back from J-Fiber I will update this post.

Your CV looks like its been pulled back why it's poking out more than usual (It will poke out some but in the cover so you be ok). As long as the cover sit flush on the CV flange you will be fine. For SMG Owners, you may not have the extra wiggle room like us manual guys that we can Lower or Raise the trans it self to get it to fit. You have to remove the big front bolt and loosen the 2 bolts for the rear diff and pull it back for it to line up. If you don't it will never fit. We installed it with the cover on and torque it down in a star pattern to spec it will sit flush on the flange (Crushes the cover alittle because the diff flange is tapered). Everything has to be align correctly for it sit properly. Four other people installed this exact shaft with no issues If you need anymore help please contact me.

I might be mistaken but the M3 specs a gasket and not a metal cap like the one youíre having issues with.

Iíve never seen an M3 DS come with a cap on the end unless itís a rebuild.

This is an Aftermarket CF Shaft Jae OEM spec doesn't have a cap but a gasket. J-Fiber went with a cap due to the packing and ease of keep it clean. I have ran 330i cap on m3 with no issues.

My rebuilder puts a cap on the end on reman shafts and no one has complained about it not fitting. Maybe just buy a 330 cap?

Probably makes it a pain being a 1 piece.

Cap is same on the 330i. It has to be crush as well. One-Piece shaft make it much more difficult to install but its not impossible Just need the right people and guidance to get it done.

Hammer fixes all! Iíd defer to a mallet first in this case.

NONO not on a Carbon Fiber shaft! No warranties if that happens...

Your mechanic doesn’t know how a CV joint works?!

Ok...let me answer your question...

First, take that metal backing plate and throw it in the trash. Buy the gasket. Part no is 26111229503.

See how your diff input flange has grease on it? That is from the CV and has nothing to do with lubricating any part of the diff. All thatís behind it is the pinion nut and lock collar on top of the front diff seal (a common leak point BTW).

You should clean up all of the grease on the input flange before reinstalling the shaft.

That metal backing plate is just a cap for shipping purposes. Otherwise grease would get everywhere and the mailman wonít be too happy.
