Like the subject says, looking at a very clean 1 owner 2013 E92 M3.
This will be a 2nd car, mostly for the colder winter months as my Cayman isn't so great in snow. I know the M3 isn't exactly a snow car but I don't want an AWD car, just don't. I have thought about 335ix but it looks too soccer mom and I don't plan on modding to look like an M car. His factory warranty ran out about 5 months back and have done as much due diligence as I can by calling dealer service department and finding out the history of the car. Looks like it had a recall for actuator - I'm assuming the throttle actuator plastic piece of junk that breaks easily? Did they engineer a more durable part as part of this recall? I'm of course worried primarily about the rod bearings after spending the last 4 hours finding out all about this lovely topic. I recall my E46 M3 had something similar though never impacted my car. The dealer here in Denver whom I spoke with offered a 3yr/75K extended maintenance warranty for $4700, which seems very steep considering the car has 39K miles. Of course the rod bearing issue would be covered if it came up, but I likely will only do about 3-4K miles a year at the very most, likely less. Appreciate any referrals or recommendations for sound extended warranty plans. I just see people quoting 5 year/ 100K miles for $2.7-3K and I can't help but feel like I'm being a$$ raped by this dealer. I'm fine doing my own oil changes/brake pads/spark plugs and could probably tackle the actuator if I had to. The rod bearings are a little too much for me and I don't have an engine hoist to support it doing the job if it needed done. Thanks. |

Bump.....
Hasn't anyone bought an extended warranty that's cheaper than nearly $5K for 3 years/75K miles? My Porsche was a lot less than that and that can't be right. Or if you guys feel this is this just a 'normal' rate then I'd appreciate the feedback? If it is then it makes these cars much less attractive used car purchases as it drives the price to (in my case) to $50K for a 4 year old car. That's just about 25% depreciation and BMW's are not that strong for resale. They are good but not that good when prospective buyers know they are going to have to dump some cash into them for the larger service items at 40-60K miles. Thanks. |

Sorry to bump this again.
It's been up for 2 days and zero response? Either the community is not active anymore or no one has purchased an extended warranty for these cars recently? I'm surprised no one else has any info in this given there seems interest in buying used E9x cars? Am I missing something here? I guess I'll post in another forum to see if I can get some help... |

Most of the e9x M3 action is on the M3Post, this site is mainly an e46 crowd.
I have a 5yr/75K mile extended warranty through USAA/Assurant for ~$2k. There is a 10yr/100K mile limited warranty extension for the "Idle Cntrl Device (Actuator)" not sure if this is for the idle control valve and/or Throttle actuators, probably the former. I've had a few e92's, they've all been solid. If I didn't have an extented warranty I'd probably swap the bearings at around 60k miles. Good luck, it's an awesome car that'll put a smile on your face before you even hit the start button. |

However, you can buy a throttle actuator from FCP Euro for about $675 a pop, but it comes with their lifetime warranty (as long as car doesn't change ownership).
