Default New Modded m3 purchase.

I recently just purchased a 1997 5 speed manual coupe with 198k miles.

The car has had the headgasket replaced, and cut to .008. Along with a valve job both being done at 152k.

The ASC is deleted. And the ABS light is currently on. Are these intertwined? I hooked INPA up to the car. And I cannot seem to connect to the ASC module. Does anyone know the exact module name? I’m using the 20 pin round connector. And I’m able to connect to every other module. Including airbag. I know the secondary throttle sensor is disconnected. Any ideas ?

Looking for a mishimoto rad hose if anyone has it for f/s as well.

The car is modded pretty nicely.

Here’s a list of mods:

Those are good mods, and probably added 15% power. A turbo can double the power and really makes an E36 fun.

Have any idea why the ABS won’t connect with inpa through the 20 pin?

Maybe I’ll try ISTA. I assume it’s a speed sensor. But it would be nice to connect to the module. Which is like $1000 new.

Regardless. I got a NH state inspection sticker today. Even with my AA ceramic headers, and AA track pipe.

Maybe the electronics in the abs pump assembly are broken. There are some DIY in resoldering but I simply bought a used 4 channel abs pump. I think you can also send it out to a few places to be repaired. A bad abs wheel sensor should show up as exactly that, a bad abs wheel sensor. There can be so much junk on the tone rings that the sensor can’t read. And old sensors typically cannot be removed without breaking them apart.

The ASC delete could also be an issue. I think a resistor needs to be added or the abs light will be on, but I deleted mine almost 15 years ago and can’t really remember the details. You can search for e36 ASC delete and find out.

You don’t have to solder these resistor; you can simply stick it in place. Fold the ends back to double them up if it fits loosely. You can also leave the motor in place but it is a cleaner ASC delete if you remove it and tuck the harness down in the cavity behind the shock tower between the abs unit and the fuse box. You will still need to find the pin locations and resistor specs.

If it’s an ABS/ASC module you need an ADS setup. A USB interface will not work.

Thank you.

I will order the 20 pin ADS cable with serial connector.

Will I need to configure the cable somehow. Since INPA uses a USB connection currently?

To answer your question, no, removing the ASC throttle body shouldn't have your car throwing an ABS code. Most of us turbo guys don't have the ASC anymore. If both your ASC and ABS lights were on, I would look at the sensor that plugs into the top of the brake booster....at least, that was my issue when both my ASC and ABS were on.

In the ediabas.ini file you need to change the Interface = std:obd to ADS.

You’ll also need to run the ADS hardware setup from the ediabas/hardware/ads/ads32 folder. Use command prompt.

And most importantly, you need a 32-bit OS and ediabas version lower than 7.x.x as otherwise ADS will not work.
