I'm going to look into the DIY coatings for car pro etc. I don't daily drive the car and I'm fine getting in the rhythm of washing it the correct way etc.

I just not sure I can buy into the hype of $1k for a sealent/coating.
the coating isn't what's costing that much... it's the mnhrs that go into the paint correction prior to coating application. tbh $1k sounds cheap... too cheap. $1.5k and up is about where it should start.

if you think it should cost any less than that... then no offense, you just don't 'get it'

Depends on the work needed. I paid about a grand and it came out great. Paint wasn't so bad underneath so a good polish/mild correction sufficed whereas other cars may need a lot more. You're right that the cost comes from man hours and paint correction, but total cost also depends a lot on paint condition pre work.

I'm being quoted $2k with the coatings. I was trying to understand if these coatings are worth the price and people's experience with them. I'm not concerned about the price. You don't think 10 hours is sufficient.

Thought I'd post this fresh picture.

Since I got a new trunk lid I waxed it for now as it hasn't got my ceramic treatment done to it. The rest of the painted panels you see are cQuartz put on two years ago.

This is the difference between two years of cQuartz and one day of fresh wax:

I've had Gtechniq crystal serum lite on my m3 for over a year now and I'm very happy with it. After every wash it looks like I just picked it up from the detailer. Water just beads and slides right off.

What did you pay to have it applied?

With former experience starting and running my own detailing company, I've used opti-coat and pearl nano. My clients preferred opti-coat, probably due to the marketing and brand recognition.

One thing that EVERYONE preferred to opti-coat was "Sonax Polymer Netshield". It's an aersol sealant that beads water like nothing you've ever seen before. A lot of times they preferred the sonax every few months rather than the opti-coat, as the opti-coat cost's big bucks but loses durability very quickly. Also, there might be a "cool" factor to the sonax.

I had it done from a good friend who owns a clearcoat correction, coating, wrapping business. He has a client base of exotics and high end cars constantly coming to him. He's even been paid to fly out to another country to detail. But I know it's the time that you pay for to have it done properly done. He's not the cheapest. But he's also comparing to competition to not be overpriced. His attention to detail is borderline OCD so that's why he knows he can charge what he charges.

This stuff looks good and EASY. Might have to try it out on my wife's car.
