Good point! X3s are still ibus and should be compatible with E46s. One does have to be careful about TCUs on ebay, many that are for sale are European models and are GSM rather than CDMA. I have not heard of GSM TCUs working on US cars, even just the bluetooth portion.

For 2005 cars, you need to have BMW Assist to have bluetooth. In the US this usually came as part of the premium package and would be distinguished by the sharkfin antenna on the roof at the back of the car. The sharkfin while not definitive outside the US, should mean Assist and Bluetooth for 2005 cars in the US.

Default 2005 M3 TCU can be installed on 2004 M3?

Hi everyone,

My 2004 M3 production date 11/03 has equipped with BMW assist/SOS TCU(made by motorolla) but not with bluetooth. I tried to swap and install a 2005 model TCU with bluetooth (part # 84109132711) on it. Been keep trying for 3 days but the module can not be pairing with my cell phone. It keep flashing with "Activate Phone" on the MID sterio. I have tried all the pairing methods from the ULF with pairing button hooked up pressed 3 seconds; to the newer method no need pairing button just turn the key to KL-R for the first 2 min. auto pairing mode but no luck! Even tried to reset the TCU by pressing the face button for 10 seconds....nothing! Any idea? The 2004 TCU has only connected with 2 Fakra plugs blue and black; but the 2005 TCU there is an additional yellow cream port and I did connected it with the tighten and hiden yellow cream color plug from the harness. Am I doing right? I tried just to connect the yellow cream one like most other ULF setup, still no luck! Also there is a purple color port on the TCU without connected; what are all these blue, black, purple, yellow cream ports to be specific used for?
After 2 days searching on forum posts I have found no much info like my case. 2 posts caught my attention: 1. someone saying the 2004(made pre 3/04 models can not be installed the TCU with bluetooth from 2005+ models; not sure why and no much info. Is it true? 2. someone saying it can be done and still keeping the BMW assist/sos with bluetooth; but need to have the TCU recoding. Not like just installed the ULF for bluetooth and sacrifcing the BMW assist/sos. Who can do the coding? I think most of local dealers they don't know anything about it but would like to keep charging you for them to test and learn; you might ending up paying for nothing.

Sorry for long post. I hope if just need to do the coding that would be so great after so much time, effort and money spent. Thanks for you guys attention, sharing and suggestion.

Paul

I was able to pair my Blackberry 8100 with my 05 ZCP, took more than 10 times and my BB couldn't always detect the BMW Audio Device. Once I got it to pair up, I made a phone call but other party couldn't hear me but I could hear them. Any advice?

I just bought a 2005 vert that shows to have included option 0639: BMW Assist w/Bluetooth System. The production date of the car is 10/04. For the life of me I cannot pair my blackberry Bold (9700) to the car Bluetooth system. When I press SOS button (either the tool or the SOS) the single CD-radio screen says "BMW Assist Inactive."

Please help -- I don't really care about the Assist, but Bluetooth pairing is key. Any suggestions, advice, anything?

Thanks in advance!
