Default What is the little handle in the trunk??

I looked all through my manual and can't figure out what this is. In between the two recessed handles on the underside of the trunk lid is a small triangular plastic handle attached to a cable that goes inside the lid. Pulling on it, I hear something moving but can't tell what it is. Is it an emergency trunk release in case I get locked in the trunk?? :nixweiss:

It's the transformer lever. Pull it and your car turns into Robotech.

j/k Emergency trunk release indeed.

Yeah. Emergency trunk release. It also glows in the dark so you can see it when you're in there. Sounds pretty silly, but if it saves one life I guess it's worth it.
The reason I know this is because I got pissed at my girlfriend one day when she got smart with me, so I threw her in there for a timeout and she got free. Man, that made me mad. Damn BMW.
(just kidding)

You know what is funny is that the seats are fold down and do have release handles from inside the trunk also. This gives you another way at least out intot the cockpit of the car.
So just in case for those who dont know, if you do manage to lock yourself or someone else in your trunk there are two escape routs.

yeah a lot of new cars have this with a diagram on it of a person hopping out of the trunk and escaping. i guess the mafia finally scared enough people with the "body in the trunk" thing. Try it. have someone with you just in case, but put yourself in the trunk and pull it. your trunk will open via a lever. And just in case you can always fold your seats down if you don't trust me.
