Does it have flat ride??

i3's are awesome man (and super quick). I've driven them many times for longer commutes (50-70 miles) and they're really comfortable for the size. The regenerative braking does take time to get used to though.

I give it a month tops before you try to stuff an S54 into that i3

Should make for a great dd - curious to hear your winter impressions though, as I know the range will take a hit in the colder temps.

Also you still planning on that 5/9-5/10 PCA event? If so, I will see you there

Ian is living BMW's plan for the typical M car owner.

While I was working at BMW NA, we were told to market i3's to everyone with an M car. i3 for a DD, M car for fun. That person's household combined MPG would get BMW to their incessant quest for 59 MPGs.

Good on you. Literally cannot stand the i3 and I've logged more hours in them than I want to openly admit.

To be fair....All things considered, long-term he is basically driving a free car...and one with a full Carbon-fiber monocoque that he can DD and take the family in. Electric (doesn't need gas...and right now gas is $$$), instant electric torque, light weight, low COG, no maintenance cost (standard warranty and extended CPO warranty once the 'new car warranty' runs out), and under $20k for a car that is only 2 years old. A new base Corolla costs more and WAY less cool to drive. Crazy to learn this is the last generation i3 with a carbon-monocoque and crazy to learn that BMW loses $50k for every one they sell. Even if he finds that the car is a total bore to drive, I can't imagine he will lose anything by putting daily commuter miles on it. Pretty sweet deal considering if it's that anemic he can just jump in the M3 or M5 when he gets home.

I've never driven one, but that value proposition certainly has my attention. I wonder how it is in serious snow? Wouldn't mind a similar situation for myself to be honest. However, I wonder how great it would be in Wyoming blizzards or how many charging stations a place as remote as that state would have available?

I have a 3 pedal (Mustang). Sometimes, when driving the SMG/DCT, I subconsciously step on the dead-pedal for the clutch thinking I'm in the Mustang. So, when you get used to the regenerative braking, then jump into the other cars, hopefully you notice the car isn't slowing when you take your foot off the brakes.

With the miles that he and his wife commute, the value proposition is ridiculous. It's worth any inconvenience.

What is also interesting is that the wheels on that thing are basically frisbees. And they went with 20s on it (yes, 20!) because the added diameter increases the contact patch, which is useful given that the tires themselves are 155s.

Obviously there's no snow here, plus I only took it around the block (and the serious slowdown whenever you let off the gas is... well, it's weird as shit), but I can only imagine that with a 155 width tire it ought to do pretty well in snow.
