Actually that's not really the case. The TT is soooooo long you simply couldn't complete it mentally or physically if you're pushing 10/10ths. Trick with racing is to get your 8.5 or 9/10ths to be as fast as the competitions 10/10ths... if they have to push that hard eventually they will make a mistake, its inevitable.

The famous sprinter carl lewis once pointed out that a man can only run his absolute maximum speed for 10 yards. Even in a 10 sec event like sprinting a human can't endure 10/10ths the entire time.

i stand corrected..but when 3 to 5 of them die each year I am guessing that 10/10ths is more the rule than most sports.. if you look at the race results I cant really see where any of them took some time off for a snack.. 1-6 spots you could flip a coin and thats close to 2 hours of racing.
