Although this is a race car keep in mind that it's not street legal if you removed the airbags or other safety equipment. You can be fined pretty heavily for that. Just FYI.

also note were talking about a race car with 100 pounds of 6 point cage installed.. so that only loosing 300# realy is loosing 400# and re adding 100 for safety..

1) Calculate the stock weight:
3400 (car) + 200 (driver) = 3600 lbs

2) Calculate the stock power-to-weight ratio:
3600lbs / 333 HP = 10.81 lbs/hp

3) Now weigh the car after taking weight out (let's use Dan's car, which is:

3280 - 300 = 2980 lbs.

4) Now apply the same power-to-weight ratio to arrive at the equivalent amount of power to move this lighter car the same way the heavier car is moved:
2980 lbs / 10.81 lbs/hp = 275 HP
So Dan's lighter car needs 275 HP to move like the original heavy stock car with 333HP.

5) Let's see what the factor is here then:
333 / 275 = 1.21
333 * 1.21 = 403 HP

Dan's lighter car with 333 HP moves like a heavy stock car with 403 HP.

Very nice!
Wow - sweet math! I haven't seen a "word problem" broken down like this in a while.

So, it looks like Dan gained 11.29hp per every 100lbs he lost. Lose that roll cage and you can bump that "403" number to "414"!

My only concern with this is 'where' the weight is being removed from... pulling rear-end weight is easy, but it unbalances the 50/50 BMW tries so hard for. This is what i am trying to combat... and yes, with the stock hood being aluminum you won't save as much going to a carbon hood as if it were steal like the non M 3-series.
