Speaking of peace of mind, I need some more: I replaced the diaphragm springs on the sprocket hubs as per the rattle procedure instructions with the upgraded s62 ones that are suggested there. Was confused by one thing: the instructions say "Install new diaphragm spring, cup side down, into each sprocket hub." which indicates to me that the side that would have the interior of the "cup" that would be formed if the center of the disk were filled in should be facing down/into the sprocket hub (and hence the outer diameter of the diaphragm spring is the surface that should be making contact with the sprocket hub surface).

Both the old diaphragm springs that I took out and the new ones i put in had big capital letters printed/stamped ("A" on the old springs, "B" on the new springs) on the side that would be facing outward in the pictures that appear in the Beisan procedure, if my interpretation were correct.

But in this image, no capital letter is not visible, implying that either a) it is on the other side and I got the wrong orientation, or b) not all diaphragm springs come with these letters stamped on them?

Anyway, can anyone confirm that my diaphragm springs facing the right way??
Your diaphragm springs are facing the correct way.
What letter is printed and which side it's printed on has no significance.

I agree, I have no idea if it was replaced before.
Maybe, or maybe not, who knows.
I see alot worse than mine with less mileage.

But then all other parts, (cambolts and oil disk) was original, and Vanos seals were pretty flat,

Anyways, I am happy that I have the start over point now.

Phew, thanks Raj! Was a little freaked out when I noticed the that both my original diaphragm springs from 2002 AND the brand new recently manufactured S62 springs all had a single letter stamped on the same side, made me think the ones in your photo must have as well.

And thanks again, Raj, for the fantastic customer support throughout my whole Beisan install process. Raj didn't hesitate to immediately ship me a free teflon seal (charged me the cost of shipping only because I begged for pricey next day service since I needed my car running again ASAP, which he was happy to oblige) when I mangled one trying to press the intake piston back into its home. It arrived to me in Los Angeles by 10am the next morning, and he even threw in a second extra seal just in case I mangled another one! He also patiently talked me through my timing questions on the phone when I phoned him expressing inane concerns that he must have been hearing for about for about the trillionth time about things that don't actually matter (sweet tooth etc).

It's not like he actually needs any more positive press in this forum, but Rajaie is a total professional, and we're so lucky to have him and that he's chosen this as his business.
