Back with a Tech

Hi Guys, weekend update #2.

New transmission mounts, a little trickier on an auto than a manual. There is very little room to work and getting to the top bolt was a PIA...finally got it with a swivel socket. I still have a drivetrain vibration when car is stopped and under load, goes away as soon as I put it in neutral. If anyone has any ideas please share. I'm thinking I'll do motor mounts next but I hate to throw money at things I don't need to replace quite yet.

Then I got my ZKW's all wired up. Starting to look like a proper M3 now

I put in some amber LED's into the city lights, I kinda dig them.

That's it for now, need to replenish my car fund a bit before getting more parts on the way.

Looking great! It's amazing how much a new set of headlights make the car look fresh.

Thanks Nathan! One of these days I'll have you help me with an hid retro fit.

Had to pull the transmission mounts yesterday and cut the studs down, they were hitting the outer bolts on the guibo. )

I used the UUC Black mounts and the studs are longer than the factory mounts. I just had to cut them down a quarter inch or so.

*Edit* You probably meant for the vibration, gotcha. The guibo looks like it is in good shape, but it isn't spinning when the car is stopped so that would have to rule it out if I'm not mistaken.

Well one step forward and two steps back...This weekend my zkw lens randomly decided to crack. This happened while the car was sitting in my garage. WTF!!!!????

It sounds like since it cracked while on the car I'm SOL. So that sucks.

Yeah, I have no idea. The climate is pretty mild here in the PNW so I don't think it's temp related. I think they are defective from ZKW. With all the hassles I've had getting headlights for this car maybe it's just meant to have the plastic ones.

I was planning on getting more work done on the car this weekend but didn't even want to look at it after this happened. Hopefully I'll have better updates soon.

Damn talk about shitty luck. The ZKW's are awesome but they come with a lot of extra risks. They pit super easily, the wiring can be butchered by inexperienced mechanics, you can't run a CAI with them and like what happened to you, they can crack. But they do look amazing.

Yep, pretty hard to stomach a $500 headlight lens cracking out of nowhere. I'm just going to leave it as is for now and hope ZKW releases new lenses someday.

I did order a few little things to make me feel better about it so hopefully will get working on it again soon.

Anyone from the PNW going to M car days this weekend?
