Its not a flaw. Its single stage paint. The owners are the flaw.

No. Dakar, mugello are both single stage. I think the 94/95 alpine white are as well. When taken care of I think Dakar 1 is a much nicer colour than 2 but that’s pretty subjective of course.

I know the 95’s AW are dual stage, the clear coat is visible on me and it makes the paint really jump out at you when it’s raining outside.

I am almost positive Dakar I and Dakar II are also slightly different shades. I say this because in my hunt for the right car, I came across a 98 (Dakar II) that had the hood and fenders replaced early in its life (sometime in the late 90s or early 00 I believe). The color was slightly off only in some shades of light (photos) and the seller told me he believed the panels were painted in Dakar I not II, which would have made sense.
It is almost as if it was noticeable if a light or flash was used. Very strange. For those of you that know and own a Dakar car, its a VERY unique shade of yellow. In photos you can tell it looks like a pastel yellow, which it usually does however under certain lighting conditions it can look "bright" banana yellow as my buddies call it. In my garage it looks banana, in the sun its pastel. Really cool, I hate yellow cars normally but Dakar is in a class by itself IMO.

Not affiliated but seems like an insane deal based on miles and condition. Had a colleague interested but he is passing. Easy drive home for ya or ship it - $700-800 uncovered and I have lots of referrals for great brokers. Seems like a knowledgable seller - ask to FaceTime live to start the car - walk around etc. I have had great luck recently doing this. Also have a line on a VERY clean and sorted Dakar 97 in Denver Colorado - albeit with quite a bit higher miles. One of the cleanest and heavily pampered E36s I've seen in a long time. Happy to inquire on a price there too. |
