I also got to the GM5 module and took it out in order to have a look and found some stains on the TYCO relays. Don't know if that matters.
Anyway, there's something that bothers me.
When I lock the car using the key remote, all doors lock. When I press unlock all doors but the driver's unlock.
But, when I do the same thing from the lock button (near the gear shift) in the car , the driver's door doesn't respond at all (not even locking). All other doors behave correctly.
When I say all other doors, I mean the passenger door, trunk lock and tank lock.
Look into having the relays replaced in the GM5. My car experienced similar problems (only one door would unlock). I used this guy and was quite pleased with his service and time he took to help me troubleshoot the problem.

Just did this about an hour ago and yes all it is a PITA but small hands and patience work wonders on getting this thing out. As all pretty much said, Move the window railing as forward as you can and then try to pull it out i was able to get it out w/ all connectors connected, back in w/ 3 connected and the electrical connection off. Thanks again, this DIY helped a ton!!!

Dealer is asking $720 to replace my driver side actuator, is that way out of the ballpark? I was thinking it would be a $400 job.

Have an independent BMW shop do it. There has to be a good one in Dallas. Check the regional subforums and ask.

Just talked the dealer down to $500. Car's in the shop for $4k of total service/repairs. Inspection II, rear brake pads, new shoes for the parking brake, new headlight bulb, coolant flush and the actuator. Just got a new clutch for $2k 4 months back as well.

Envy the DIY guys but I don't have the resources or time. Had the car since new and it's amazing how much money I've spent on it over the last 7 years. Still love driving it though and never going to sell it!

I'm adding this page to my favorites and will tackle this in the near future. My pass. door doesn't unlock with key fob or center lock button. Spoke with Scott and from what I read on here it's the actuator. I can hear a audible clunk when attempting to lock and unlock the pass side door with key fob and the center button. I opened the door, pushed the door knob halfway down and shut the door. When I pushed lock on key fob it locked the door. When I pushed unlock - nothing. Pass. side actuator is where I'm putting my money. If that doesn't work, then I'll do the GM5. Thanks M3forum.net!!

Is This the same on an '01 330?

My symptoms are driver door ajar light is on even when door is closed. Interior lights stay on as if door is open. Interior lock button in center console does nothing. Door will not lock or unlock from key fob. Trunk will open from key fob. I can unlock the door the old fashioned way with the key. I can put the windows down with the key in the door, but when I try that method to put them back up everything closes but the drivers window.

So, sound like the actuator

I'm not sure what that is man. I just got my M3 a few weeks ago. I hope you get it figured out. Now I gotta figure out why my trunk won't open with the button in the rear. I can only open it with the key in the keyhole, the key fob or the trunk release button. Maybe that's the way it's supposed to be, but my wife's 07 335i opens just pushing the button. But it does have the "comfort access" feature too so...
