Default Whistling gas tank?

Today I was about to run out of gas. I knew as I was racing an unmarked Audi and felt it spurting. Then I heard a whistle that almost sounded like music (though anything but music to my ears). It went "Whistle (pause) Whistle Whistle (pause )" (repeat). Once I added gas it went away. Good telltale sign I suppose, but odd.

It was probably your Fuel pump.

Uh oh - time for a new fuel pump? I assume that's in the gas tank where I can get the float fixed? Maybe a whole new tank? I threw in some Techron that cost $12 and the $3 rebate form requires you to have not only the receipt but the empty bottle you already threw away.

The fuel lubricates the pump, but if you didnt run it for very long like that you should be okay. Just... don't do that again... no need for a new fuel pump, the one in there still works right?

Bought the 944 turbo instead of an e36 M3 as it's cheaper faster, and a porsche ;-)
