Default Rubbing sound when turning

Hi All:

This is my first post. I apologize ahead time if I do anything wrong.

I am in desperate need for some help. I have a 2003 E46 M3. When I turn the wheel (almost to lock) at slow speeds, it sounds like there is some rubbing at the back end. I don't think it is tires since I have checked that possibility and there seems ot be plenty of clearance. I am running stock sizes currently, 225/40 front and 255/35 rear on stock 19" rims. I only hear it when I turn tightly at slow speeds (i.e. turning in a parking lot). Does anyone have ideas? I have not had a chance to investigate the chassis in the rear. Could this be a symptom of the dreaded cracking mount points? Thank you for any help you can offer.

Thanks,
John

could be the differential. Noise on both L and R turning? Assuming noise only on L turning, then jack up right rear wheel off ground and engage 3rd gear running at idle. SAfety first.

Sorry for being dumb, but I assume that if there is an issue as you think, the jacked up right wheel will spin if there is a diff issue?
Thanks

If there is no visible rubbing, change ur diff fluid with bmw fluid that has the FM booster and friction modifier. If you can't find the right fluid, post back asking.
Fluid for this diff is very critical for silent operation.

On a straight line the diff doesn't work much -- spider gears not rotating. But in a tight turn (or with one wheel locked up and one wheel up in the air) the spider gears rotated around, and could make noise if things are not normal. The one wheel up is to test the idea.

Thank you all for the help. I'll do some more testing this weekend and let you know what I find.

If you eliminate that you have a wheel rubing (guessing thats not the problem given your description) - then the problem is insufficient friction modifier in your diff fluid.

Change your diff fluid with OE diff fluid. Don't get experimental.

Then go to an open parking lot and drive slow figure eights for a few minutes.
