Got a bimmerworld carbon fiber sunroof delete panel just in time before another trackday. Headliner was a pain to remove, mainly because of having to remove the roll cage and the airbag curtains. The canister of the airbag curtains are hidden behind the front dash air vents. The proper way to remove them is to remove the dash, but if you remove the vents, there's enough wiggle room to get them out. Horrible process though. Headliner is about 15lb, the sunroof glass and assembly was 32 lbs, the carbon fiber delete panel was <3lb. Total weight savings is about 45lb. My total weight reduction (including roll cage and passenger seat) is approximately 360lb. I'm confident that I'm in the 3000-3100lb range now.

Another trackday at Laguna! I was just here about 2 weeks ago. Only difference is the sunroof delete panel and I bumped the compression up a click all around. After the first session, I already beat my previous personal best by 2 tenths of a second. But after the first sessions, I was getting slower every session. Noticed that the toyo r1r tires were losing grip, I was told it was because the track and temps were heating up. Tried reducing the tire pressue by a psi, and still noticed grip was decreasing through the remainder of the sessions. However, on the very last session, I decided to play around with the rebound and increased the stiffness by just 1 click all around. Right when the last session started, I noticed that I gained back some grip/traction. I went for another attempt at a pb, and on the very last lap of the last session, i was able to get a 1:48.5, almost a whole second improvement from 2 weeks ago. Really impressed with the JRZ's. I think there is still more room for improvement, I'm sure I haven't maximized the potential of the suspension just yet.

Back at Sonoma, first time with the JRZ's. I got a new PB of 2:02.4, about 8 seconds better than my previous set (KW's and OEM wheels).

Although lap times greatly improved, felt like the car wasn't as grippy or has less traction compared to when I had my first trackday with the JRZ's and new wheel/tire square setup. Throughout the day, I was getting slower, just like my previous trackday at Laguna. I was consistently hitting 2:02-2:03 in the morning sessions, then 2:04-2:05 in the afternoon. I feel like the tires (Toyo R1R's) are losing grip as the track heats up. I am checking tire pressures every session, keeping it at 35psi hot. Been talking with a few people to try and understand why I get slower throughout the day. Maybe it's me, dunno. I did have my first spin out in session 3, turn 8, but I was still going hard afterwards. I was also making suspension adjustments through out the day (nothing major, just a click up/down with rebound and compression). Just not as sticky as I would like it to be.

Things I want to change and play around with the next trackday is tire pressure and rebound/compression to get more traction. Any advice would be appreciated. Currently have the JRZ's set at +5/+9 in front, +5/+8 in back (rebound/compression). Also looking at a front splitter (hardmotorsports) and a wing (bimmerworld). Track tires would be nice, but only have 3 track days on this new set, I'm sure there's a few more track days in them.

My PB is in lap 4:

Was able to squeeze one last trackday to end 2019 at Laguna Seca. I was also able to install a hardmotorsports front splitter, bimmerworld v3 wing (tall), and some race tires (nankang ar1's). This made a HUGE difference. Beat my previous personal best by 3.9s! Got a 1:44.6 on the first session. I blew sound on the second session and had to left off at the sound booth the rest of the day. I was just getting a feel for the new setup and was getting faster throughout the day. Too bad I had to let off at the sound booth after session 1, I'm sure I could've done better.

Jan 19, 2020:

First track day of the year. Back at Laguna. No new modes since the last one. However, I was able to shave off half a second with just more seat time. Was able to pass sound this time. I put a second silencer on my laguna elbow in addition to the silencer in the muffler. I feel like I'm suffocating the car, especially in the higher rpm's. Considering making a custom single exit section 3 exhaust to unrestrict the exhaust flow and gain back some horsepower. Oh, also brakes are starting to give. I kind of expected with aero and tires, I was going to end up with higher exit speeds which would result in harder braking on the next turn. Starting to experience brake fade as you can see at Turn 2 on my PB video below. Saving up for a BBK maybe in the next few months.
