Default steering rack plastic vent tubes

im not all that familiar with the steering rack, but when i was under the car the other day, i noticed there was a plastic piece with a tube on it.

realoem doesnt show this part.. just the hardlines
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=32_2424

use the #4 on ECStuning and it shows the hardlines that come with the plastic pipe but i cant find it separately for sale or even what its called
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...e/32131096282/

how imperative is that tube, just a vent tube? anyone know where to get another instead of paying $44 for the hardlines? mine are broken off at the threads

Yes, it's the vent tube and I'm sure a place like Rack Doctor would be able to provide a spare.

Yes, it's essential or your rack will suck in all sorts of crap and fail quickly.

Eh... maybe not necessarily. I'm under the impression, perhaps incorrectly, that it's simply a vent between the tie rod boots. Many of us who did the 330ci rack swap are still using the incorrect inner tie rods (e36 rather than e46) which are designed for internal venting, while the e46 rack is externally vented. Even just plugging up the holes would be a good temporary fix, but not ideal.
