Audi the featherweight.

Not sure if that makes me more impressed by Audi, or more sad about the joke BMW has become.

Yeah, but 20k miles or so isn't much. I would guess most of these cars will see a few more good years before repairs start adding up. Obviously, shit happens sometimes though. I get that, but it might be worth a warranty or taking a gamble over driving a new Camry or similar.

Guess I haven't paid attention to this segment in a while. I would personally rather find a certified S4 with some warranty, but that A6 isn't bad.

Especially given that the BMW is the smallest

it was also only serviced twice since new, with 21,000 miles about 3.5 years in between those services. That doesn't predict a strong troublefree future. Shouldn't these have free yearly maintenance for at least the first 3 years?

It would have been serviced more often if there was something wrong with it, wouldn't it have?

Also, what about the 3 cars I showed with 200K+ miles?

No dummy, BMW is the only German automaker to offer complimentary maintenance for the first 3 years or 36K miles. Audi and Mercedes-Benz stopped about a decade ago.

BMW has radically cut their included maintenance from what it was a decade ago, and they want you to pay a supplemental charge for anything more than an oil change or wiper blades.

I'm sure I'll look at an A6 again, but I'm still not convinced that they are reliable long term.

As long as you don't buy a Cadillac or Chrysler product, then you'll be good...
I think the problem is that you don't realize that Audi has made leaps and bounds of improvements in quality since the days of your 2005 S4.

If it weren't for Dieselgate maybe Audi's recent improvements would have coincided with great sports cars.
