1) can this part be changed without removing the metal cover?
2) can this part be changed without draining all the oil?

just noticed this is happening to me as well...yellow light, yet good oil levels... looks like i have another DIY soon. Thx mods for chiming in, saved me a heart attack!

-the diy looks fairly simple!

Use a VERY clean oil drain pan and reuse the oil.. (it's what the dealers all do..)

Make sure the level is to the TOP mark on the dip stick. I got the oil level light when it was between the marks, but filled it the extra 1/2 quart and have not had it once since then.
