I had xb35 5000k and while output was fine and color was just right, they ended up flickering after a few months. Have cbi now and no problems

Once the bulbs break in and get some hours on them the color will change slickly and reach around 5500k in color.

Amazon.com: Sylvania D2S SilverStar High Intensity Discharge (HID) Bulb, (Pack of 1): Automotive

This is probably the cheapest price (Sylvania = Osram fwiw)
Should I buy here on amazon or ebay:

Amazon ones look more authentic & up to spec I guess

Wow.. Those ebay listing ones sure seem way too cheap to be legit considering they are still 180+ everywhere else in the world. :/ I'm sure they'll be good either way, but if I'm gonig to spend more then 40 bucks on some cheapo HID bulbs, they better be legit. lol

Okay, here's the best way I can describe the 5000k color, because I know how hard it is from pictures.

This is what 5000k looks like (at least my XB35's do). You know the newer X5's? The ones with the blue angel eyes? It looks like that. If you're looking at your car from close up and the car is not next to a 4300k car, the E46 projector still gives a tiny tiny hint of yellow, but only from certain angles, so you may think "Oh, this looks exactly the same as a 4300k car"… it doesn't. At all. Put it next to a 4300k car and the 4300k looks literally like halogens.

As you move back about 5 feet, it just looks white. But as far as what looks like it in person, look at an X5 with the blue angel eyes. That's what 5000k bulbs looks like on an E46. I know those do have 4300k bulbs, but the illusion of the angel eyes and that projector makes it look whiter. E46 projectors for some reason make bulbs look yellower than they are. At least mine do.

The lens can change that. I've got some ZKW lenses in mine, and the CBIs look pretty much pure white, maybe a hint of blue. 4300K look white with a hint of yellow
