not sure really. they just told me the catalyst is not ready and that I'll need to drive around some more and come back.

So I finally passed. I must've driven over 200 miles with no luck. Went for a couple of 15 minute drives at 55mph and still cats weren't ready. Finally realized I left the AC on. Turned it off the next day and went for the 3 minute drive and it passed!

Do I need to go on a 55MPH drive for 15 minutes right before getting it smogged? Or can I follow the procedure then get it smogged the next morning?

You can do the drive cycle the day before the smog check. It doesn't need to be on the way to the smog check place.

I'm having issue with the cat sensor in the not ready state (all others are in a ready state) I did 3 drive cycles at 50-60 mph for 15-20 min each (all under 3K rpms) and still not ready. I've driven 300 miles so far trying to get this thing to trigger but no dice yet. I hate putting mindless miles on the car like this.

Do the 3 minute drive as stated in the original instructions. Like you I did the 15 minute drive but it didn't work.

Is this what you're talking about in terms of the 3 min drive?

- Hold at a steady speed of 55 mph for three minutes.

- Decelerate (coast down) to 20 mph without braking or depressing the clutch.

or this:

I held steady at around 55-60 mph for about 3 minutes. Exited the freeway slowly then just got back on and went back the way I came. Remember you have to start from cold. So I woke up in the morning and casually drove to the freeway. Did the 3 min drive then came back. Don't rev past 4K RPM if possible on your way to the freeway. Keep the AC off. That's what worked for me. Goodluck

So I just got back from another unsuccessful drive cycle attempt for the CAT readiness.

I did 2 attempts of the following:
- 50-55mph for 3-4 min, never exceeding 60mph, never exceeding 3k rpms, and never touching the brake pedal

I also did two attempts of the following:
- 50-55mph for 15-17 min never exceeding 60mph, never exceeding 3k rpms, and never touching the brake pedal

Still no nice for me and this is my 6th drive cycle. Unfortunately for me my steering wheel buttons aren't working right now so no ability to use cruise control. Using an OBD2 scanner (autolink AL319) and CAT still shows not ready.

Not sure what else to do at this point as my registration is due on Friday. What am I doing wrong?
