Curious to hear people's thoughts... I'm considering moving from my Brembo GT BBK (which has been nothing but faultless) to a 996 based setup. My motivation for doing so is that FCP now sells track pads (Hawk DCT-60s) for the 996 calipers, as well as the CSL rotors they use... so I could stop paying for brakes for track use.

... thoughts?

Seems like a solid move to me. Brake pad selection is so key.
What's the pad selection like with the GT kit?

Pretty much anything I want. There's TONS of options, as it's shared with OE cars where Brembo used these calipers, as well as tons of platforms where the same caliper (with different sized pistons) where used.

I don't think there's any area where this move would be an upgrade other than running costs.

Don't know for sure, but I doubt it (or at least doubt it would be optimal).

I think I would probably run at least one event with them before selling off your Brembos.

I know the csl rotors wearing quickly isn't as big of a deal with the FCP warranty, but you'd still have pay to ship them back and 4, even 2 rotors is pretty heavy.

I also wonder, besides needing replacements more often, would the csl rotors just not perform as well as PFC or brembo or other 2 piece rotor? Would they crack/warp easily? Do they bank as much heat?

The rotors are also smaller. I guess the only concerns I'd have are rotor specific, not the calipers/pads/RR brackets/lines.

Nah, CSL rotors are heavy lol

But free pads and rotors is a plus. I guess it depends on how often you're actually going through these consumables.

996 is way less money to run if you’re eating through the rotors and pad. With FCPEuro basically being a life supply of rotors and pads is the main reason I’ll be running a 996 setup.

I don't have a solid feel for how much I'll be tracking going forward (post kid), but last year it would have saved me ~$2000 in consumables. Most years would likely be in the $1000-2000 range.

I can ship from work for free, so the price returning things to FCP is not a factor.
