Somewhere between 40 and 50 minutes (was listening while driving), he mentions that the turbo M engines were 100% a cost saving measure forced on the M division by BMW, that the M division was against.

Would be awesome if BMW make a high specific output N/A motor on a limited production car similar to what Porsche does. Sadly I don't think they even make an N/A motor anymore.

Purely out of curiosity, I wonder if you could take an M2 CS with the S55 and "de-turbo" into an N/A motor? Technology has come a long way since the S54, would be interesting what could be done today from the factory...

He's at Hyundai now, I believe. It'll be interesting to see how Hyundai's product line changes.

If cost were not an issue, it would be still be difficult to imagine BMW not turning to turbocharging. You see many of the technically capable OEMs have already moved to it.

Another interesting thing as well was, in a way, he said the new M engine are not real M engines.

Makes me a lot sadder about the era being over.
