I had exactly the same dramas with mine. I bought the bootlid with the number plate light kit. I ended up just filing the hole a little bit with a very fine file to make it fit, and eventually it went in. Its in there very tight and going nowhere now! This is the one I got here

I reused my existing license plate lights from my old trunk, however the opening had to get dremeled a bit to allow the lights to fit in. Mine fit extremely snugly, i would also suggest putting in the led license plate lights at this point so as to avoid having to replace the lights anytime soon if one burns out.

you should try some RDash lights, there hella bright LED's. else you can put in the e92 oem lights which are also led but not as bright. these are the same light style as the e39 lights which the csl bootlid uses

Stoopid thing is, the bootlid and lights are both genuine OEM parts, why the hell didnt they just fit in the first place! No biggie, but what did BMW do at the factory, sit there and file every hole a bit bigger on every CSL?
I replaced my bulbs with LEDs and did the reverse lights at the same time
