The reason they i3 looks to have goofily large diameter wheels is actually functional. BMW wanted the efficiency of narrow tires, but they wanted the same contact patch area per pound as other BMWs. So, instead of going for a wider contact patch, they went for a longer contact patch, by increasing the rolling diameter well outside of the norm for a car of its size and tire width. So, it has way more grip than you'd think, judging it by looking at how wide the tires are (155s up front).

That said, I don't see how a skinny tire would be worse off hitting a pot hole or having a blow out at speed. In fact, to the contrary, a lower profile tire is much less dramatic during a blow out that a high profile tire, so the i3's dubs should help there

oh okay cool.... I didn't know that

Congratulations! Boy or girl? It's 1 am on the east coast, if that baby is 12 days old, we'll probably get a reply within the half hour, lol, nobody is getting any sleep in that house.

Congrats on baby and new car. Surprised you didn’t want a manual e46 wagon to use as a baby mobile. More fun and more practical.

We have a manual e46 wagon (fully mechanically/electronically M3 converted). It’s my DD. I just don’t want to ruin it with baby filth.

It will be our go to road trip car, when we don’t need something bigger.

Girls are awesome. Mine has me wrapped around her finger most days.

Dont get super excited about the sleep quite yet. It may change.
It makes everything so much easier when they sleep well though.

Plz dont die OP. Doing 94mph on a public highway in the US as a regular part of the commute is reckless. Not because of your or cars capability. But roads are shit, potholes appear out of nowhere, same for deer, crotchphone distracted drivers and all kinds of other unexpected issues. An accident at 94 mph is for sure fatal. /rant.

I like the car. I am looking for a winter beater and while this wont do for my needs its an interesting unorthodox option to think about.

Also congrats on becoming a dad! Its exciting stuff. My kids love the M car.
It really depends where you live. In Pennsylvania, in the south east, average traffic speed during non-rush hour on the highways is at least 80-90mph. Driving 60-65 at the limit would be rather dangerous given the delta between you and other cars.

Having driven some of those highways pretty regularly, 94mph is barely above average speed of traffic.

Yeah, no kidding. As long as it's dry, I routinely cruise at 100+ *with traffic* down here in Miami on any of the highways that aren't I 95 through downtown Miami.

Once it rains though, forget it. It's barely safe to go half that speed.

But if I was driving up to hockey (at the rink just down the road from the dealership that sold Ian this car, coincidentally) at 94mph, I'd be in the way.
