Default The girl that almost got away - 2002 LSB!

Hello M3F!

I have been a member for 10 years and this will document the story about the girl ( LSB ), that ALMOST got away....( Cliffs at the bottom )

I started my career in June 2010 and had just passed the series 6 exam. My buddy and I were taking a break in between studying and I came across a 2002 Laguna Seca Blue M3 on eBay with 27k miles. Slicktop, manual seats, Dinan package, LSB, I was in LOVE! I placed a bid with 6 hours left and thought, let’s give this a shot. Well, little did I know, I was on my way to Kansas City the next day! This was my first BMW and it was beautiful! Owning a M3 was like a dream come true at the time!

About 8 months later, I posted the car for sale on here ( She was sooooo clean! )

http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=358577

I sold LSB with 35k to m3forum member, jreyes. Javier and I became friends and I would occasionally see the car when visited Houston/Austin. I told him to let me know if he ever wanted to sell it. In 2016, Javier sold the car to his cousin. He racked up 100k miles in 5 years and sold it. Bummer, oh well, I thought to myself.

Fast forward another 3 years and I see a 2002 LSB posted up on m3forum with Dinan Package. No photos were posted, but it now has 162k and had some sort of accident history. His ad stated, must sell, well maintained, bought from my cousin 3 years ago!

No way!!!! This was it, my original m3 from 9 years ago!!! I texted my buddy and he confirmed! I texted my girlfriend and said, babe, we are going to Houston tonight!

I spoke with the seller and asked him to give me all details. He informed me about an accident, maintenance history, and stated that the paint was bad on the hood. We agreed on a price and off we went to Houston!

It was a very weird, yet exciting, feeling to see the car. She was no longer the minty, beautiful, and pristine car that I remembered. However, we had history and I knew she needed to come back home!

We shook hands at 11:22PM and off we went back to Dallas!

Cliff Notes:

Bought in 2010 w/ 27k
Sold on April 7th, 2011 w/35k
Bought on May 24th, 2019 w/ 162k

Future Plans:

- Cleaning has started ( I have fallen in love with detailing and paint correction! )
- Volks will be installed
- The paint damage on the hood appears to be extreme oxidation. After a few test runs, I'm confident that I can bring it back to life!

Notes:

- Apparently the accident "totaled" the car - I didn't pull a carfax
- The repairs to the front right look pretty good - I'm not sure what happened, but was told that the "axle" broke .... no axles up front, so I'm guessing control arm or something.
- The maintenance records are INSANE over the last 3 years!
- Subframe has a tiny crack that I can see .... bummer, will be a future repair.

TONS of maintenance receipts from the last 3 years:

- Clutch / Flywheel
- Vanos
- SMG pump
- Rod Bearings
- Oil Pump
- Koni Shocks + Strut Mounts
- TTFS SMG tune
- New Stoptech rotors + pads
- Throttle Actuators
- Thermostat

... more to come !

First day I got the car in 2010

.

The day I sold her in 2011 to Javier in the Zidane jersey!

The day I bought her again

.

The S4 handled the 9 hour round trip like a champ!

First day back home ( notice the paint on the hood is toast )

.

Haha - yeah it was pretty awesome for the car to come full circle! I tried to put my CCWs on for fun, but they didn't clear the stoptechs. Once I decide on which set of Volks, it should be pretty fast

Here are a few updates from last weekend:

Put the car on the quickjack and went to work on the wheel wells and wheels.

Wheel cleaning: Nextzett Colortec wheel cleaner ( this stuff smells horrible and I'll never buy it again, but it really works well ) + P&S brake buster ( replacement wheel cleaner ) on the oem 19s.

.

.

Wheel well cleaning - Nextzett Blitz APC ( love this stuff ) + brushes

.

.

Interior Prep - Removed the seats, vacuumed, used Tornador + McCollouch Steamer + Griots interior cleaner + Folex on floor mats

. by

.

Steering wheel cleaning: Combo of Nextzett Cockpit + Brush - pretty gross what 162k of dirty hands+body oil, etc looks like. Unfortunately, the sun did damage the leather a bit, so its not perfect.

Feeling better about having a cleaner cockpit.

Damn I thought I cleaned mine out rather thoroughly when I bought it but apparently I need to step my game up lol. Pretty cool story about getting her back! I’d like to do the same with my old 740hp 05 duramax someday.. Excited to see the progress- pretty peanut butter and jealous about the color. I’d kill to have any of the blue cars!

Thank you sir! It was too special not to share.

Stoptechs all around - the decals have faded.

You were meant to have her (LSB) back man! Happy for you. That must have been quite the moment when you laid eyes on it in person again.
I often think about where some of my old rides are now and how cool it would be to see them again. Unless they were totaled. Lol
