Default 2003.5 BMW M3 Imola Red / Black / Original 6MT - 68k Miles

Hey all,

Not *really* looking to sell this car just trying to get a read on the market for it to determine if it's something I can kick off if I feel a burning desire for something new.

This car is a 2003 BMW M3 produced in October of 2003, making it a 2003.5 car. It has had the subframe done, vanos inspected, and the rod bearings have not been touched.

It sat in a garage mostly untouched for the last 9-10 years, before that it lived a life in Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin as a summer car for the previous owners (allegedly - but there is absolutely no rust)

Recent maintenance (ALL done in April 2019):
  • BMW 1 & 2 Service (includes valve adjustment)
  • Valve cover gasket + washers
  • 6 Brand New Spark Plugs
  • New engine air filter, cabin filter
  • Oil Change w/ Filter - 10W60 Full Synthetic
  • Fuel Filter
  • Coolant flush / refill - added redline water wetter, BMW coolant
  • Replace upper and lower radiator hoses with OEM parts
  • Brake fluid flush with ATE Gold
  • Mount & Balance 4 brand new OEM size Michelin PSS on stock wheels
  • Installed new-ish low mile stock springs
  • Alignment
  • Replace brake pad and rotors F&R
  • Replaced LR lower control arm
  • Replaced LR lower ball joint (hardware was looking rough - no damage)
  • Differential fluid flush with Redline 75W-140 Gear Oil
  • Transmission fluid flush with Redline D4 ATF

Cons:
It has had 9 owners (lease -> bought on loan after -> traded in -> sold to another dealer -> etc..)
Some paint chips on the hood (very small, attempted to take photos in photo album)

Prior to this, I had the subframe reinforcement done last year in which all rear subframe bushings, rtabs, etc were all replaced as well.

I think at this point with what I'm into the car and with how the value on low mile e46s continues to go up I'd probably be more interested in selling at around $21,000

I understand that is a little high, but this is a feeler post after all

Thanks for looking!

I’d be interested if you are truly open to selling. Any accidents? All stock (exhaust tips look much darker)?

Wouldn't a car made in 10/2003 be a 2004 MY?

Oh and I wouldn't say 21k is high, I think it's more than fair. I got my bone stock 2004 slicktop 6mt with 80k for 20k

I think it's a fair price. I'd like another imola m and I'd be looking at this closely as an option if I were ready and you were selling....

Well I haven't come to terms with selling it really but if someone came to me and seemed like a good caretaker for it, I would eat the losses and let it go.

I don't think the E46M3 is my "forever car" and I have only a 2 car garage, so I'm giving up room for something I'd enjoy more to keep this around.

Anyway, it seems like most people are frightened by the number of owners.. I guess I have a different perspective as it seems like people who buy a car tend to do quite a bit to it when they first get it, then move on.. kind of like I'm thinking of doing.

Yeah could be that with 3-4 owners it would be looked at more favorably but it appears to have been cared for as you said and has had many of the common concerns taken care of, so being a 6sp and in one of my preferred colors it ticks off a bunch of boxes and E46 M3's and Z4 m coupes are both forever cars for me

Nice looking example. It is great to see all of the recent maintenance.

Where is it located?
