I'd certainly hope the fuel pump wouldn't lose it's ability to hold pressure after 4 years but It seems they are a common failure point for all of us. Did you ever replace the crank position sensor? I know you said you have a code for it but not sure if you mentioned changing it. As far as my car goes it hasn't had a single issue, I think it's safe to say now it was the pump. I can't believe that the used pump I got had the same exact issue but maybe the check valves in these pumps are just utter crap and do not last long..

keep getting crank position sensor fault, and now engine temp plausibility codes. just replaced coolant temp sensor, and thermostat is new as well. both genuine bmw. new fan clutch. new cooling fan sensor/switch. comes on full power with a/c on. coolant temp an dash shows constant in middle. maybe to the left slightly when cruising. oil temp is at or just above 210 since its 100 degrees here in florida when in traffic which may be causing that fault code. other than than no faults present anymore. drives fine too.

thought maybe it was the vanos repair as this wasnt happening before the repair. but solenoid, valve block and seals are all repaired/replaced and cleaned and vanos test passes every time. timing is pretty much perfect maybe -/+ less than a degree on each side if that. its acting like it either fires and stalls immediately, just cranks for a second or two. or chugs and nothing. or fires up as if nothing is wrong. lol i give up. has a slight stumble at idle sometimes too no vacuum leaks.

idk. lol. just logging data and waiting to see if something changes that i can start from. fuel trim is good. no ses light on ever just 1 time occurance faults. nothing is a hard fault lol.

So you did or didn't change the crank sensor? I feel like that would cause some starting issues if you are getting a fault for it.
